So the tariffs have been executed, but not on goods in transit?

I heard this quip on the news, it wont affect "goods in transit" meaning basically a month delay. Anyone else hear this?
Edit: Found my answer, any chini goods shipped the 10th of May or after. So if it was FOB chini before Friday and on the water headed here its not subject to the 25%.

That's fair IMHO. Now an importer can evaluate if the market will support the higher prices on chinese goods, and decide if they want to order more.

Here is where your strength can also be your weakness. We import such a variety of goods, the categories we picked are those most vulnerable to pricing, like holiday ornaments. The supply chain can easily be moved to India, Malaysia etc.
And once that happens, chini does not lose the sale, they lose the industry for good.
I do hope more quality goods manufacturing shifts back to the states, companies like Carrier make shat products when produced outside the US, same with a lot of US brand names.
They will retaliate, probably today, then we will look at the remaining 350 billion in goods.
This, combined with seriously clamping down on their cyber theft will have a devastating effect on the chini economy which was precarious at best.
This had to be done, would not have been nearly as painful if it had been addressed over a decade ago.

And would not have been done under any other President.
As a business that imports goods from China let me tell you, they needed us more than we need them and a lot of China industry is already gone or going away, China made a colossal mistake in underestimating Donald J Trump and they will pay for that mistake for generations

There were similar guarantees the last time around. Get orders in by "x" date to avoid the possible tariffs. If they did kick in China would eat the cost.
They are already in CYA mode lowering prices on product to cover the extra 15%.
In other words the Chinese Govt is going to eat part of that 15% and not the American taxpayer as I B abitch and 90 proofidiot would lead you to believe. The Chinese depend on us for their economy and they won't frick that up.

Dear MrLarson
Good day!
We're sorry to tell you that tarriffs under the September 2018 action increase to 25% on May 10th, 2019. official news today. Web: LINK
We will double check the best way to lower our production costs for you, on the other hand, the tarriffs policy is still possible to delay, Trump is changing his mind every day, we will keep you updated if any further news.
The price with 25% tarriffs could be sent for your reference if you want.
Feel free to contact me if any questions.

I bet yesterday was the busiest China export shipping day of the year

This is reasonable.
It gives sellers and buyers time to plan accordingly.

How many on here are aware of the extreme pain China is going to be feeling because of the African swine flu?
China has already lost more hogs to ASF than the US has in total. That’s correct, if the ASF was in the US on the same scale we would have zero hogs.
There is a protein cliff the Chinese are facing on top of everything else.

I saw that Iowa, and the cost of chicken has skyrocketed.
Here is the irony, US pork is one of the things chini put a tariff on, and Smithfield, the largest US producer of pork, is owned by the chinese......Im certain they got a break on the tariff but that right there is funny.

Mr. Larson,
I deal in international trade, and I tried to explain this many times. I have been in "chinas shoes" when some govt changes the tax structure. You get with your customer and say, well I think the end consumer can afford 5% increase, Ill eat 15% if you as the importer eat the other 5%.
This nonsense where they pick out one product, or one company, like Harley Davidson, and blame the tariff on their price increase, are just companies ripping you off.
The problem chini has, many of the goods with the tariffs were purposely picked because they are products with typically low margins because they are low tech easily transferable supply chains. Either eat the margin or lose the business.

What position are you trying to attribute to me? Of course the burden will fall partially on Chinese producers and their government. Even I was surprised by the high amount that Americans have borne on the ones so far!

Good thing we got a big shipment out last week.
This will definitely affect my place of work, but I’m all for it.
Have definitely heard a lot of bitching though. Everyone will get over it.

You have bitched and moaned since Jan 2017 about trade and GDP.
You are 100% anti-Trump and anything he does.
He could cure cancer and you'd pull a graph out of your arse that shows him at fault.
You are Brian Stetler.
