So, the facts are as follows?
Charlie Kirk says that Owens’ entire family was on welfare, to bolster her bona fides as a conservative convert.
A reporter questions this assertion and does a story about her background, including an assertion (apparently correct) that her father was an alcoholic.
Outrage ensues.
Edit to add interesting background article on Owens from a center-right source.

She and Kirk have used her background in their arguments. She’s been very open about it. The problem is Kirk overstated.
Bottom line you can’t go on about your background and then act horrified when people take a look.
