Peer reviewed study published last week re: the use of ivermectin as a Covid-preventative in healthcare workers:

Two doses (300 µg/kg/dose in a gap of 72 hours) of ivermectin chemoprophylaxis reduced COVID-19 infection by 83% among HCWs for one month. Ivermectin is a safe and effective strategy to prevent COVID-19, in the containment of pandemic alongside vaccine. Further research is required to guide the frequency of chemoprevention, acceptability, and cost-effectiveness in the community setting.

They've been doing in vitro and in silico studies for over a year now, but due to ethical concerns, a randomized controlled clinical trial hasn't been possible. When looking for the causes of disease, it would be unethical to deliberately expose participants to a suspected risk factor, as would be the case in an RCT. Instead a prospective cohort study is observational rather than interventional. This type of cohort study appears to be the best research we can do at this point with Covid.

LOL at the person downvoting a peer-reviewed study.

Ivermectin is a promising Covid treatment and prophylaxis, but the agency is denigrating it.

quote:

Earlier this year the agency put out a special warning that “you should not use ivermectin to treat or prevent COVID-19.” The FDA’s statement included words and phrases such as “serious harm,” “hospitalized,” “dangerous,” “very dangerous,” “seizures,” “coma and even death” and “highly toxic.” Any reader would think the FDA was warning against poison pills. In fact, the drug is FDA-approved as a safe and effective antiparasitic.

quote:

Ivermectin fights 21 viruses, including SARS-CoV-2, the cause of Covid-19. A single dose reduced the viral load of SARS-CoV-2 in cells by 99.8% in 24 hours and 99.98% in 48 hours, according to a June 2020 study published in the journal Antiviral Research.

Big Pharma gets a lot of (rightly deserved) flack for their big profits but the founder of Merck, George W. Merck said: "We try to never forget that medicine is for the people. It is not for the profits. The profits follow, and if we remembered that, they have never failed to appear."

Merck (the company not the founder) discovered ivermectin and has donated more than half a billion doses worldwide to prevent river blindness. The medicine costs pennies and in many poor countries is given away. But if a wonder drug is cheap or free, where's the incentive to create new ones...?

They actually moved it from the "DON'T DO IT... YOU WILL DIE!!!!" to a neutral standing in Jan of this tear.

quote:

There are insufficient data for the COVID-19 Treatment Guidelines Panel (the Panel) to recommend either for or against the use of ivermectin for the treatment of COVID-19.

Finnish company has a U.S. patent for a similar nose spray.

LINK

A biotech venture based in Turku, Finland, called Therapeutica Borealis just secured a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for its COVID-19 therapy based on ivermectin and a few other notable therapies: hydroxychloroquine and aprotinin.

Developed as a nasal spray, which can challenge the virus’ ability to enter the body and replicate, this particular investigational product can be mass-produced at low cost and distributed to parts around the world where vaccination may be less pervasive. Now the company seeks pharmaceutical company partners to scale up research and go-to-market.

Like when Fauci said something similar back in the fall of 2020 about Hydroxychloroquine, but then recommended two other untested, unproven drugs.

The warnings about the risks of ivermectin were also interesting considering it widely given to every man, woman and child in poor countries with incidences of parasitic infections. It's even believed to be safe for pregnant women, though it is not yet recommended due to insufficient research.

The discovery of ivermectin won a Nobel prize in 2015 and THIS article singing its praises was published January 1, 2020. But a few months later, the horse paste was going to kill us all...

So big pharma has just about squeezed all they could from the Covid19 vaccines now it’s time to produce therapeutics to manage the cytokine immune system response. This is a real money maker because Covid19 is not going anywhere. Time to rebalance the portfolio again.

I already know, it works. According to studies it is better than HCQ.

According to studies it is better than HCQ.

HCQ has proved more effective than ivermectin at both duration and intensity of severe covid.

Remdesivir remains the gold standard with the best results in meta analyses.

Lightning the downvote wasn't from me, but you have the clinical trial nomenclature wrong.

There ARE in fact interventional trials with ivermectin recently completed (like the study you quoted and linked) and ongoing (like the PRINCIPLE trial in UK LINK

The Indian HCW study was not randomized, and was open label (not blinded, patients chose to participate according to the prescribed dosing scheme or not), but at face value it is promising.

We do not deliberately expose participants to disease in ANY late phase study...it's not the norm. A challenge trial is going to be done early in development (after proof of concept in animal models, working your way up to non-human primates) and in a VERY limited number of healthy normal volunteers, usually in a very controlled setting of a phase I clinic.

It’s the same as what’s in a pill by prescription. My vet told me and I quote “been taking it once a month for 30 years”.I’ve been knowing him that long and he ain’t no spring chicken
