True. My favorite was the 'view tax.' If you lived in NYC and could look out of the window of your condo, home or apt, and see the Hudson river (as opposed to looking at a parking lot or another building) you should be taxed for the view above and beyond the property tax.

And bike paths, roundabouts, "green space", etc., useless $hit.

I wouldn't put roundabouts in the same category. There are alot of intersections in the US that if replaced with a roundabout would get safer (once retarded drivers learned how to use them) and reduce congestion.

I would say what next are they going to tax me for farting and breathing, but I am sure that is included in their cap and tax proposals.

Perhaps if the 2009 stimulus had been used for what was advertised, instead of a slush fund for Democrat donors, this problem may not be so bad.

The stimulus money stayed in the budget, it was not a one time deal. This is why there were deficits every year. No new budget was passed so the stimulus money stayed in the budget and the is still there today and compounding at ~6% per year...

Can anyone tell me where that money is being spent every year?

I know the Natchez-Vidalia bridge got a multi-million dollar decorative light system, that IMO makes it more unsafe. That damn thing will blind you when you are the old section (westbound).

I wouldn't have a problem with raising the gas tax if the money was being spent properly.

This. Most conservatives aren't as opposed to taxes and democrats think. They just hate feeling squeezed and then having nothing to show for it. When people feel like they're getting what they're paying for, they support tax renewals and even increases. Just look at Baton Rouge with the difference in response to taxes for libraries and brec compared to cats. Because the libraries and parks are outstanding, people support funding them. The busses are aweful and the system is rife with corruption and mismanagement so people oppose taxes to pay for it. Give taxpayers value for their dollar and they'll be more willing to part with their dollars.

Oh, I know. That's why Obama and Reid were fine with the CRs. An extra $787 billion to play with each year.

it should be a rep and dem issue - who do you think is going to pay for the crumbing infrastructure? It's real - it's not a claim of climate shite or anything like that - check out the interstate systems, they are in terrible shape.

That is the problem the democrats want to just raise the tax, but they don't have a plan on what needs to be fixed, replaced, repaint, what can wait 5 years or anything. They just want more $$$. Present a plan on what you want done, estimated cost and timetable and then I will listen to how you want to pay for it.

You know the old saying that a good democrat never saw a tax he didn't like. Thy always need more when their programs don't work and low and behold we need more money.

If you guys want to fund roads out of the general fund lets do it.

Otherwise I do not see how you could have a problem with what amounts to a fee for use system.
