His claim was that there are plenty of homes at 150k or under that arent shiteholes

The one you posted was a shitehole. If you can provide an example id love to see it

How surprising!
We also keep coming back to median household income...which isnt really fair to compare 1970s and 80s for multiple reasons
-There are less households today. Less women are willing to wife up your average dude and work with him to save to buy a home. The average dude is already ugly to them...and if he doesnt already have a house, even uglier. Marriage rates reflect this
-Also, there are more folks working later into their lives and making more money than they did years ago. There are also more Boomers than there were the previous generation which even further skews the median household income. This worked in the opposite direction when looking at median incomes from the 70s and 80s. There were more Boomers than older people and since naturally, younger folks make less money, it skewed the median income down.
All that said, using even the heavily skewed median household income metric, it still shows that house prices are much less affordable now than at any time

took literally one minute to find a decent one. Midtown Mobile. Area being gentrified. Completely renovated. Great yard, great porch, nice sized rooms. Downside not having a second bathroom. Still, starting out, not a bad home and definitely not a shithole

To each their own
Clearly, there are non shite hole homes for 150k. You just have to be looking in the right location.

But that doesn't mean that homes are less affordable than they've ever been. What it means is that people do not behave in ways that are conducive to affording a house. Those are two separate claims.
I'll concede that claim all day long, because people's spending habits now verses then also fall into that category.

O.k., but (since you brought it up) the relative lack of married couple households now skews it right back down.

Using the three metrics included in the housing affordability index that was linked to above (household income, mortgage rates, and inflation adjusted house prices) it shows no such thing.
Let me ask y'all something:
For a moment let's act like the data actually shows what you claim. Let's pretend that it's true that no generation has ever faced a housing problem like young people in 2025.
So what?
Now what?
What's the point of endlessly whining about it?
Surely you realize that other generations have faced far bigger difficulties with other things. Maybe not buying houses, but something else. Maybe it was unemployment, maybe it was widespread lack of access to quality affordable health care, maybe it was being inducted into the military to fight a foreign war.
Y'all shut the frick up and deal with it, like those who came before you.
The whining is deafening from y'all pussy snowflakes.

My great grandpa grew up with 13 brothers and sisters in 1500 sq ft. You can get that here, 5 miles from the beach, for 80k if you're patient enough for you and your "stuff". Nobody is making you live in the metro.

If said person was making 70k you wouldnt need a roomate and that place was a dump and looked liked it smelled
No chicks want to show up there. I saw a solid apartment complex in downtown Mobile 1bd for 1200
You can keep thinking these places you are linking arent shiteholes but they are

Probably because they pretend that they're the only ones to face this difficult circumstance of houses being expensive.
