It's not that they care about truth, it's that they want to become unimpeachable so they can post other "damning" facts about Trump and claim to be impartial. Notice they're only correcting these truths long after they were relevant in the public eye, they don't want obvious falsehoods on their record so they can post more recent Trump damage and claim impartiality.
It's a sneaky little trick but it's fairly obvious when you realize it. "We debunked the 'very fine people' myth so obviously you can trust us on everything else!"
