SIAP but when I read this I thought it was a Joke...

LINK

quote:

Greg Epstein will become the head of representatives of the religious community at the Ivy League School

Epstein, who has served as Harvard's 'humanist chaplain' since 2005, is a devout atheist and caters to atheists, agnostics and humanists

His elevation to the position is meant to be inclusive of larger and larger numbers of Americans who identify as spiritual but not religious

'There is a rising group of people who no longer identify with any religious tradition but still experience a real need for conversation and support around what it means to be a good human and live an ethical life,' he said

A survey of the school's class of 2019 showed 21% of the class as agnostic and 17% were atheists; two thirds identified as 'somewhat or very liberal'

The position of chaplain is not necessarily tied to one particular religion, although it has origins in the Christian tradition

This is just another reason while the US is on a major decline

Until non-binary, this was the stupidest of self labeling.

This is when you know (and can’t deny) that it’s all a big game of “frick you” to these people.

As an atheist, this makes zero sense. Yet one of many reasons why atheists get a bad name.

it is getting REALLY difficult to read headlines on here, and correctly assess "Babylon Bee" or "Real Life".

Thank you, dumb-frick deranged leftists... that's NOT how it is supposed to be!

We need diversity. This is a good start with a religion prof who doesn't believe in God. We need go further with math profs who don't believe in Algebra.

They have so much money it's meaningless to them.

They find pleasure in twisting the needle into our most revered institutions as they die on the cross of Marxism.

I'm confused as to the role of a chaplain then.

From reading what was posted, it sounds like a typical counselor. I was under the impression a Chaplain would "counsel" in regards to matters of faith.

Seems like two different positions if you ask me, though I guess the chaplain could do double duty for the faithful. Clearly not the other way around though.

But not inclusive of Christians or Jews hmmmm.

With some 17,000 Puritans migrating to New England by 1636, Harvard was founded in anticipation of the need for training clergy for the new commonwealth, a "church in the wilderness". Harvard was established in 1636 by vote of the Great and General Court of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
