next of kin are typically given a summary and briefing on the results of an investigation that always follows a combat death.

There is a Line of Duty investigation the family will get but it is a very basic investigation that only looks at the SMs status (Title 10) at the time of his injury and the injury itself. There will be basic facts in that but thats it.

The actual, no shite investigation with the details is close hold.

I'm fairly pro Trump, and I agree with the Dad- normal questions that most of us would ask if we were tragically in that situation...

Then he can ask those questions through the appropriate channels.

This is purely political for some spotlight.

I've briefed family members in pretty specific details, based on the 15-6 and LOD. If disciplinary or administrative action is pending, then that usuallly doesn't make it into the briefing until after its all settled.

Worked well for the Tillman family.

The Tillman incident will have to serve as a lesson for THIS chain of command.

I'm quite certain that THIS chain of command has a very effective protocol for providing some answers from the chain of command to a grieving loved one. I am quite certain that this chain of command can handle the situation without intervention from the Commander in Chief.

exactly

both of you are idiots

An individual getting KIA on an OP that went bad is different from denying people on the ground assets for help.

The level of ignorance in the above post is astounding.

I don't care what you think. I stand by my statement. Not going to politicize the death of a soldier on a mission. Not the same thing as Benghazi. When you can produce factual information where the Trump administration did something then we can discuss.

I'm sure that the chain of command will find a way to meet very privately and in person with the Gold Star family.

Whatever military person that meets with the family will be away from POTUS level in the chain.

The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is the principal military advisor to POTUS. That's Dunford. Trump didn't appoint Dunford so, Trump probably relies more on SecDef Mattis for military advice. Mattis is pretty smart, but, if he needed to get smarter before advising POTUS, he can require Commander, US Special Ops Command in Tampa to brief SecDef on the op before it happens.

It's highly unlikely that Trump made the decision without consulting with Mattis and it is impossible that Mattis gave incomplete and bad advice to POTUS.

This explanation of the higher end of the chain of command might be helpful to explain to the family, but the military person explaining this will be much closer to the first commander in the chain of command, rather than the highest.

Well Trump wouldn't authorize the mission because of the unjustifiable risk. So yes, he should be questioning the decision.

After ignoring Charles Woods for four years, liberals have managed to start something like 4 threads on this in one day.

The seals don't approach the president to ask permission to conduct a raid that they are not fully prepared to execute, and they certainly don't look to the potus for his tactical military ops expertise.

This guy knows this and is using his sons death to take cheap shots at the president. It's revolting no matter what letter you hang after your name.
