Right on time. Reverse race baiting. Nice.
yeah, cause nothing said on this board has anything to do with race until I bring it up.

We're talking about literacy tests. No way for it to not be racial since that was the entire purpose of it originally.

You need to watch some of those Jessie Watters "on the streets" segments. There are a ton of ignorant white folks out there too. Downright embarrassing when it comes to politics.

All we need to do is suspend voting for those on public assistance.

It's a conflict of interest.

I'd support it. Ain't legal, though.

I understand the sentiment. But no.

Two main problems-

You are thinking of voting as a method of selecting leaders. Let's be honest, it's a pretty mediocre method of selecting leaders. What it does have going for it is legitimacy. We strongly believe that government should have the consent of the governed. Everyone you remove from that process weakens voting's most important aspect in favor of only getting marginally better leaders (and that is only a maybe).

Second, who is going to set up these tests? You have way too much faith in government to think this could never be abused (or I should say abused again).

We should definitely base policy on what we see on TV.

So your answer is to do away with all tv political advertising. I can get behind that.

Only those who serve in the military are full "citizens" who have the ability to vote.
Military service would be minimum two years, could be use for anything from civil service projects, to actual combat. Those who have the right to vote should be those who have given to prove they can handle the responsibility.

It's illegal. We should be striving for 100% voter participation and not look to suppress the vote.

We already have 100 % voter participation. Think about it for a minute.

Are you sure you didn't mean to say 100% eligible citizenship participation in the voting process? Or do you not care about eligibility, just votes?

Why do I have the feeling the sons of politicians would be doing "civil service projects" while the sons of coal miners and short order cooks would be doing combat?

Then isn't now.

And I'm not talking about a grandfather clause allowing illiterates to vote.

Unless you think certain minorities are too stupid to pass a simple literacy test then what's the problem with it?

It would be applied equally.

And you think certain minorities are too stupid to figure out the true motive of such a test?

I think stupid people of every race and creed should strive to educate themselves in order to be able to have a meaningful stake in the election process. Not simply voting the way they are paid to without even understanding what they are voting for.

So those companies and industries with subsidies and their employees are no longer allowed to vote, either?

What about lobbyist organizations? Defense contract companies? General contractors? Construction?

All of those people steal WAY more money than the poors and uneducated.
