Why create anything new? Our military should be used to protect our border.

Regardless of what agency is created or used to secure our borders, those leading the agency have to actually enforce the law and secure the border.

Hell, no. I trust Texas to defend our border more than the US Govt.

Mission specific. Every Branch of the military has missions specific to that branch. A boarder based branch of the military will be no different.

They are already considered 'uniformed' but non-military. About as close as it will get, I believe. We don't need to transform USBP, we just need to supplement it with active duty military on the border.

Will the soldiers in this branch get room and board?

They already do migrant interdiction. Think you could take border patrol under the coast guard giving border patrol its own rate, there’s already a federal law enforcement school in Charleston. Also, the coast guard already has a LE rate so you’d just add a qual code and maybe selection like they do with force protection teams at MSSTs.

why do you want the military acting out missions within our own borders. do you really think that won't end in disaster?

How would it end in disaster?

The border is one of if not the biggest threats to national security we have. Illegal immigrants, cartel, drugs and terrorists all coming through our borders. We have service members wasting away on our coastal borders not doing jack shite during peacetime. Billions of tax payer dollars that are already being used could go to helping out down there.

I'm assuming you'd be ok with our military "acting out missions" if we were ever invaded and at war with another nation. Well we are already being invaded.

Most likely they would be stationed at existing military bases and operate under the same rules as current soldiers.

I’d just rather border control shut the border and enforce laws.

Exactly. Nothing new is required. No bills, taxes, agencies...... Congress just needs to do it's damn job and stay out of our pockets!
Period. I say Congress because they hold the power of the purse. They need to stop being such cowards and DO SOMETHING.
Make a difference.

Coast Guard was part of the DOT for years.

Was moved to DHS in 2003.

Falls under the Navy in wartime.

Until we actually start enforcing the existing immigration laws, what does it matter?

We don’t really need border patrol to be a military branch if the e government won’t let them do their job anyway

The Coast Guard did report to the DoD until 2001. Since then, they report to Homeland Security.

No we didn’t . We were in the Department of Transportation

Well we gotta do something with all these illegal boarders crossing the border. Since they need the essentials like, clothes and the government is already paying them, may as well give them uniforms

Maybe we should start our version of the French Foreign Legion. We could and them to the Middle East, Ukraine, and elsewhere.

When the US Coast Guard operates within US Territory doing what they do why would they be subject to the same act?

Bingo. Trump and the republicans in Congress need to pass an amendment to allow the military to be used to protect our international borders. If USN ships can be used to shadow Russian ships off our maritime borders and the USAF can be used to intercept Russian planes probing our airspace then the Army should be allowed to be used to protect our land borders.

frick No!

1. Posse_Comitatus Act doesn’t allow the military to be deployed inside the USA with the exception of the national guard.

2. The Coast Guard is part of the Department of Homeland Security not the Department of Defense. Border Patrol is already under DHS so making them like the USCG changes nothing.

Fine.

Instead of giving billions to Ukraine simply use eminent domain to confiscate 1/2 mile along the entire border. Install three 10' chain link fences and put land mines the middle. Middle fence is also electrified. Have a road between 2 fences for patrols. Proclaim that area to be one long arse large Army base.

No violation of Posse Comitatus for securing a military base.

It can and it should be amended. I mentioned it to the Trump team people when they reached out to me about my opinions after I made a big donation to the Trump campaign.
