"And to the REPUBLIC for which it stands one nation under God ". It's a republic not a democracy according to the people who founded it.

what we actually are ruled by right now is democracy, where the government runs everything to benefit themselves not worrying about the people of the Republic. Fooling idiots like yourself and many more. It's really dumbfounding that people like you and a few others on here can look yourself in the mirror at night and actually say that what's going on right now in this country is good .

With all the inflation, the illegals flowing across the boarder at tens of thousands everyday. The high gas, energy prices, the banks going under. And your happy all because trump lost and your guy won. We all fight back and forth about stupid shite and all these politicians laugh all the way to the bank getting richer and richer off our misery. Both sides play we the people for fools . They make 150 to 200 thousand a year but they are all multi millionaires. I make 100 thousand a year and am far from a millionaire.

We need to stop fight with each other and band together because all of these politicians wouldn't piss on us if we were on fire. But me as a conservative would help you as a flamming liberal if you were down and out because I care about people in general not who they voted for. I'm sure most on here who fight and fuss on here would do the same no matter how the other person voted.

At least three distinct issues.

all republics are democracies, but not all democracies are republics.

we are a representative democracy, also called the republic. But not all republics have a constitution. The existence of a constitution sets our system apart.

The “federal“ issue is an important (perhaps the single most important) element of the definition/distinction, but not all federal systems have a constitution. In fact, not all federal systems are even a form of democracy. historically, there have been a number of important federations which were instead of monarchies

It feels like you are questioning the concept of universal suffrage.

But I could be wrong.

Sure, but only to elect representatives that have to follow the Constitution. The Constitution is placed above any idea of "democracy", but many of the drooling morons do not realize this.

The Constitution is in place to protect the people from themselves, after they get whipped up in a frenzy begging the elites to take their freedom and after they have been brainwashed by elites who can easily control their emotions and opinions through the media industrial complex.

So is he.

The constitution stands in the way of Progressives and their true democracy. They hate that.

I question everything. It is my nature.

limiting the franchise would, in my opinion, probably produce better government. On the other hand, universal suffrage also has points in its favor, including the fact that it increases the “buy in” element.

candidly, I ambivalent on the matter, but I usually end up leaning in the direction of some restrictions on the exercise of the franchise.

There are distinctions between democracy and a representative republic. A democracy is where 50.01% of the population can vote to kill the others and it becomes law.

Progressives want this.

in some ways, a constitution serves a function in a democracy analogous to the role of a governor on an internal combustion engine.

An engine with a governor is still an internal combustion engine, but the governor works to limit excesses.

The problem is better government would benefit certain populations and make life worse for the ones who weren't allowed to participate, which causes all sorts of issues and high Gini coefficients

Since you're trying to be technical I'm going to correct you in a very technical manner. They are limited by the Constitution but don't have to follow the Constitution. There's a very important distinction in those two concepts.

quote:

The Constitution is placed above any idea of "democracy"

This doesn't make sense because the Constitution legalizes democracy and mandates democracy, so there's no ranking of one above the other because they're one in the same.
