I’d sell it to the government and GTFO of Louisiana. Texas, Florida and Tennessee all have much better quality of life and aren’t run by idiots.

The sad thing is, every state has these clowns in office now. A brain is no longer required. There is no escaping stupid anymore. The city I live in might be a rare exception. Which is why I moved here. Best decision of my life.

I liked in Baton Rouge for five years back in the 80’s. Graduated and couldn’t find a job to save my life. Moved to the Tampa Bay Area and eventually moved to Orlando to advance my career in Law enforcement. That was 35 years ago. I’m on my second LEO career now and still going strong.

Florida right now is the best it’s ever been. Our quality of life here is fantastic. Governor Ron DeSantis has done an absolutely amazing job getting us through the pandemic and rebounding in the back end. We still need to get our cruise ships sailing and we desperately need service industry people to get their asses back to work. That will soon happen as well.

I love Louisiana and its people but, that state will never change.

OK Broome is a moron but why does anyone need their Government to tell them this or how to protect their homes?

Yes the city- parish has many problems. They can't buy envelops but they can create a Blight Court. Yes , a fricken Blight Court. I had a facia board on my house that needed replacing. I bought one ,painted it and put it up myself one Saturday morning. Later I got a letter from the Blight Court stating that I would have to demolish my house. I called the number on the letter asking for an explanation. The person on the line replied since I had a partially rotted facia board I would have to demolish the home. I informed them that it had been replaced with a new one. Silence on the other end. Have not heard from them again. Assholes.

I’d say closer to a BK or Pizza Hut employee who takes your money for food they don’t have then get kissed when you get upset that they don’t have the replacements they are offering either.

Or if you want to go old school, the Monty Python “cheese shop” sketch.

Time for a class action lawsuit to recover monies lost fixing their homes while govt knew it would have to be torn down.

Out of fking envelopes , what an idiot to even confess that lol. Oh man, I feel for those 1800 victims of stupidity by the whole lot of them.

information out there from the beginning. any home within the 100 year flood zone (Zone AE or worse) that had flood damage in excess of 50% of the property value needed to be raised above 100 year level or knocked down completely.

if parish did not institute this policy, then EVERYONE in the parish's flood insurance through FEMA (national flood insurance program) would substantially go up.

Considering that there is supposed to be a permitting process with regards to rebuilding homes after a flood like this, and IIRC there was a massive backlog of permits to do this, at least part of it if not all falls on the permitting organization for not telling people of the requirements.

Someone rebuilds on their own and doesn’t meet code, that is on then and their contractor.

If the city is handing out permits for stuff that doesn’t meet standards, that is on the city.

If a blight court were actually administered correctly, I think about 90% of NBR would be demolished.

I knew there would be permitting and agree the city has to take care of their part of it.

Pretty much any house on the eastern side of the tracks on Spanishtown road (and some on the western side). But if they won't even write parking tickets in front of the Elysian (where there is a damned sign stating No Parking yet residents/visitors park right in front of it, clogging up the road) then they damned sure aren't going to go after people in that area for blight. Apparently, FEMA has mandated that 1800 lucky homeowners who spent a month back in August 2016 ripping out wet sheet rock and carpet from their house and then the next year fighting with their flood insurer and FEMA - won a bonus prize of having to just tear the whole thing down bc Federal Government compounded by utter Democrat idiocy.

Sharon Weston Broome has known about this for god knows how long and hasn’t done shite about it. FTR - Ascension Parish did this a few months after the flood when the people rebuilding their houses could have done something about it.

The OT thread read like FEMA was moving the goal posts after the fact. It's that EBR knew at the time this was a criteria but did not inform residents?

The parish should bear the financial burden for that (as it's the parish's failure as an organization) and Broome should be made to carry that albatross around her neck for the rest of her term (although the local media will quickly let it be forgotten).

Do we have any sort of map or address database listing the impacted locations or are we just being subjected to more incompetent frickery by being forced to sit and wait for them to figure out how to go to WalMart and buy more fricking envelopes?
