Sorry. I meant first black male to win gold in the Winter Olympics. I read that in a separate article today and didn’t type my OP accurately.

That's what I was talking about earlier, the 2006 pursuit controversy was fake news.
He was listed as a substitute to the 5 man roster for the pursuit he could ONLY have raced IF one of the official 5 man roster had sustained an injury and withdrew. This did not happen, all the crap he took was 100% bullshite and it is still going on today.
Davis certainly has his douche moments but like the "boycott" this year the 2006 "story" was false also.
Again hate the guy for what he does, not the false stories.

WTF???? I swear reading about sports on the Poli board is damn near painful. Short track does indeed have a strong Eastern presence but speed skating as a whole has long been dominated by tall white folk. That is part of the reason the Dutch are utterly dominating at the discipline.

Can't people just enjoy the moment. While being the flag bearer is an honor, you are going to the Olympics to compete in your event. Prove to the world how great you are by getting a medal. Damn, is it that hard to understand?

You obviously don't watch them much since Davis is by far the most successful current US speed skater and is the all-time World Cup points leader. Aside from Eris Heiden he is probably the most well known male US speed skater of all time.
