Serious question: Why are the Left so terrible at picking heroes?

I know the easy answer is because they are hateful and insane, but is there some clinical diagnosis that explains WHY they gravitate toward the scum of the Earth?
We've seen them take jihadists, rapists, murderers, anti-Christians, anti-Americans to their hearts on so many occasions that it can't be written off as an anomaly.
Maybe the answer is as simple as eating paint chips as kids?

For some I think it is underdog syndrome and wanting to feel like they are big hearted for "caring" for the ones that are terrible and others don't.
For others, it is just showing how rad and hip they are, to support rebels and thugs.

Heard some freelance reporter, not Andy Ngo, but someone like him, explain it. This guy had been to 'protests' all across the country. Interviewed 100's of folks and they all said the same thing, over and over again.
They want to raze America, and Western civilization, and wipe it from history. Period.
This has zero to do with black lives, or ( non existent ) systemic racism. It has zero to do with ' enough! ' or hearing the cries of an oppressed people. That's all window dressing and doesn't mean 1 damn thing.
They simply want to tear it all down and build one global CHOP society.
They want to raze America, and Western civilization, and wipe it from history. Period.

Ami Horowitz. He's been to most of the riot hot spots and interviewed many of the BLM and Antifa rioters. They hate America and believe if they destroy it that their communist utopia will rise from the ashes.
They need to be rounded up and charged with their crimes to the fullest extent of the law.
