I’m objectively trying to put myself in a Democrat’s shoes to figure out if I’d be happy with the overall direction of the party since this round of current congresspeople have been in office, and I’m thinking I wouldn’t be satisfied but am also obviously biased. I was a Democrat myself until 6-7 years ago when I realized they were doing nothing for me individually, and I feel like it’s so much worse now than it was then. Am I wrong?

This isn’t intended to be a flame thread and I don’t intend to argue against your answers. I legitimately want to know. I feel like politicians and our govt as a whole should be actively working to make our lives better, not sow seeds of division and partisanship - which both parties are guilty of, but Dems 100x worse than Rs. I feel like this is objective fact but also know I’m biased, hence the purpose of this thread.

What has the party accomplished in the name of their voters over the last 2-4 years on the national, state, and local levels? Do you feel as if they’ve represented their voters’ wishes to their best ability?

Is “opposing Trump” and slowing down his agenda good enough, given the circumstances, since these Congresspeople were voted in for policies and ideals of their own? (they had no idea Trump would be president when campaigning - nor did their voters)

Do you think the Democrats as a whole have bettered their voter bloc, and our country? Or is making Trump’s and the Republicans’ lives that much harder a “win” and the most they could do towards bettering both (in their eyes and yours), given the circumstances?

I realize there’s only so much that can be done when you don’t have the House or Senate, and these folks were voted in before anyone knew Trump would win.

I’m not using this opportunity to say Republicans are better, but I AM having a hard time imagining I’d be satisfied with what appears to be a platform solely devoted to opposing Trump to the point that it’s caused the party and voters to take losses instead of just compromising. If I am wrong in thinking this way, please tell me why you believe it so.

Give me a reason, as a hypothetical Democrat that’s considering a #walkaway, to continue voting for Democrats. The real me can’t see any, even with an overactive and creative imagination.

They tried to redistribute middle class wealth under the guise of healthcare reform.

They're nice. They're for diversity, justice, equality and general goodness.

They’re not doing a very good job of recruiting any moderate onlookers, that’s for sure. They flock to the threads where they can hate on someone from the “other team” but won’t engage in a serious debate?

I’m trying to extend the olive branch here - you know, “start a conversation” as they like to say.

Way to represent, guys.

I'm not even going to try to put myself in a dim's shoes, when as a conservative minarchist libertarian, I am disgusted with my own "conservative" representatives. The GOP and its current lineup is comically spineless.

What I see from the radical left is that they're loud, deceitful, pissed and highly motivated to do literally whatever it takes, right or wrong, to get their way. That said, from the Right, I love what I'm seeing from Cocaine Mitch... the strong talk and confidence... it's nice to see someone in the GOP talking tough and confident. But it's going to take more than a few strongly worded sentences by the patriot Turtle to convince me that that the GOP has found their testicles again. I want to see some fight.

The dims have no message and are highly motivated. The GOPe has a good message and direction but they have no g@ddamn balls to back it up. This whole political landscape is unbelievable.

Which is why the GOP wants Ford to show up. The optics will not be good for the Dems.

Exposed themselves as the nutty basket case regressives that they truly are. Anti-debate, anti-free speech, anti-educated, anti-American.
