hung up on taxing income

Because, it'll never go away if half the population doesn't pay anything anyway.

You wanna cut tax rates to bare bones?
Eliminate income tax and go to fed sales tax.
Or, if have income tax eliminate exemptions, deductions, etc. make everyone pay.

This picking winners and losers is horrible policy.

The Senate also voted 99-0(I'm almost certain) to confirm Marco Rubio as Secretary of State. The Dems believed Rubio would represent the establishment blob, but Marco has surprised most by doing a fantastic job so far. Many Democrats including Sen Chris Van Hollen from Maryland regret voting for him as was said by the Senator himself as late as today.

Rubio told Van Hollen, "if you are regretting your confirmation vote for me, then I know I'm doing a good job!"

I'm surprised by Mr. Rubio so far. He's doing a great job imho

It's like Louisiana thinking. Someone else will pay taxes. However, it's not like waiters and bartenders are actually reporting most of their tips anyway.

That’s never stopped the GOP in the past. They’ll figure out a way to frick it up and successfully piss off everyone.

I like it, but even this shows what a cartoon show Congress is. They voted on this earlier in the year, and every single Democrat voted against it.

Good start, but they need to pass more than just this.

Not that many tipped ppl pay taxes anyway.
But, it's a horrible precedent.

How so? Most people who are tipped are paid hourly and through tips. They pay taxes on both. They are required to disclose tip money to their employer. All this bill will do is take out the tip part from being taxed.

It is not a gift. You are paying for a service.

Gifts imply nothing was done by the recipient in order to receive the gifted property.

You are only "giving" the server a tip because they gave you service. Therefore it is income to the server.

You won't win this argument, sov cit.

I predict this will backfire. Contracts will be structured as 50 bucks with an optional 250,000 tax free trip.

How many people pay in cash now? I would bet over 80% of tips are on a CC.

Wow been awhile since I’ve seen a 99-0 vote on anything that matters.

It only takes one senator to block it.

And who wants to be that one?
