This should be a bi-partisan bill. It is relevant to note that Senator mccatskill voted infavor of funding the government on Friday night. McConnell still struck the bill down because he is hell bent on partisanship over actual issues . He wants the country to blame dems for the shutdown or else the blame will rest on him and the president .

This is bullshite spin mongering and false.

This is nothing but a political stunt to divert attention away from Chuck Schumer's colossal f-up. Nothing more.

Pay for the next period is locked in 7 days out. If, by the 24th, there's still a shutdown, our LESs will reflect no end of month pay due.

Pay is the 1st and 15th of every month.

This is true for every freaking federal government entity in the country.

If they still don't have a budget CR passed by the 31st, they can then still carve out the military by doing a separate CR on HR1301.

In the mean time, there are 11 days where nothing is changed for our military. They got paid on the 15th. Their next paycheck wasn't coming until 2/1.

McCaskills attempt to bring a CR for HR1301 today was nothing more than an attempt to save face on optics for Dems. But it was completely useless and unneeded.

McConnell wants to pass a full budget CR. And he's got a 10 day buffer before the military is actually in danger of going without pay.

It's McCaskill, and she is going to lose her election.

The Only constitutional way to do this. Obama was totally out of bounds. He said so on several occasions. Therefore this SNFU is on him and him alone. Hope he gets fried in these investigations that are starting to take shape....

Wrong I am a federal employee that gets paid biweekly every other Tuesday. Our last pay period ended Jan 20. We will get our regular pay check on Jan 30 regardless if the government is open or not.

Exactly!! As someone that lived through the 2013 shutdown, I didn't lose a penny of my pay for the 14 day shutdown. This time will be the same. Every federal employee will get their full pay once the government is reopened and every member of Congress knows this. That's exactly why McConnell rejected it.

And if you don't?

You are assuming a lot here.

I myself am not in the military but two of my sons are and both of them and seemingly every other soldier they know is blaming Chuck and Nancy for this and will also blame them for any lost wages.

It simply is not to Trump or the Republicans benefit to grant back pay.

Federal employees have been paid retroactively after every single government shutdown.

I stressed out big time in 2013, I had a newborn and money was tight. But about a week in Congress passed a bill saying all federal employees would be paid. and we were.

So if McCaskill really wants to be so noble why not include all federal employees not just military? Cause its a stunt that's why!!

So this time I'm gonna enjoy my paid vacation.

McCaskill knows she's going to be voted out soon so she's in desperation mode.

As someone who lived through the 2011 shutdown, I remember seeing my pay cut off 7 days into the month when I saw the mid-month LES while deployed to Iraq.

It was later fixed, but we only got a quarter-month payment that pay period.

is it unreasonable to be concerned about the fate of nearly 1 million people that put their faith in the US government and entered into the Daca program only to be forgotten by this Republican congress and administration for nearly a year.

Was it unreasonable that those near 1 million people should have just went ahead and went through the process of becoming American citizens legally? Seems like if they love this country as much as they say they do they’d be chomping at the bit to become legal citizens.

You really are illiterate, aren't you?
It's astonishing that Progs in this thread assume you you know what your talking about.

In blocking military pay legislation, McConnell indicated lawmakers could reassess the measure if the shutdown dragged on.

"My hope is that we can restore funding for the entire government before this becomes necessary," he said after midnight Friday. "I'm going to object for tonight, but we'll discuss again tomorrow."

The democrats shut the government down and they have objected to similar bills to this one . This is just the democrats way of getting morons to think they are not the problem.

Again, I ask. Why no rule change to a simple majority? it was done for Gorsuch, why not here so there would've been no shut down? Unless of course they WANTED it to happen.
