So, you're telling me that the Secretary of the Navy told a U.S. aircraft carrier that there was no help coming?

Or was it that the specific help requested wasn't available right now?

Because I can believe the latter, to a degree. The former doesn't make sense. The only measurable conventional combat power the USN has is the CVNs (and whatever cruise missiles you can muster).

No...the Strike Group commander told the warfare commanders no help was coming. He got that from the fleet commanders. The information was passed to the ship officers after that. And the help was defined as isolation which was the only way to eradicate the virus among people living in close quarters.

It can down to two schools of thought. Total isolation or we go back out to sea with the virus. pierside in Guam without isolation wasn't a solution. the fleet commanders didn't want isolation - thats leaving a skeleton crew on the ship - but the local CVN leaders knew isolation was the only way to get the crew healthy to be able to operate the ship at peak performance. The fleet commanders didnt like the optic of a carrier down for a couple of weeks - but they also hadn't fully grasp the severity of the situation.

He said he was taking all their questions (certainly hundreds if not thousands) and would answer them all, but would have to do so later.

Let's see how he does with that.

TDS! Lol literally telling a person who is on the TR - that you don’t believe their recollection of an event that they experienced bc it doesn’t fit your political narrative - amazing

Last time I checked, CVN works for CSG works for fleet. If fleet says go to sea with the virus, you go to sea with the virus. You don't have to like it. You can register an objection. You can offer to resign.

You can't go to the press.

This is why I hate we're at odds. I can feel your anxiety and completely sympathize with your situation - I was in uniform, at the Superdome immediately after Katrina passed.

So, I know it is fricked up on many levels. Again, Godspeed and the best of luck.

I understand. It's just hard to read the narrative the bureaucrats put out when it markedly different than the truth on the ground

I'm trying to be as sympathetic as possible to everyone on the TR - you can't pick and choose which orders to follow.

They didn't get the answers they wanted. We've all had to deal with that from time to time. You can't go to the press.

Now, about that, I have no doubts.

I've defended Crozier's right to raise the issue, but it was a risky move and this was a clear consequence of that risk decision.

We had to email questions the night before his visit. his plan was to give a small talk then respond to the questions.

I think after reading the questions (he sat outside the ship in a tent awhile before he came onboard) he decided he needed to give the speech he did and not answer the questions (his speech didnt sound like prepared remarks)

They didn’t get an answer at all. Poor leadership sits idle, actual leaders take action even if it means sacrificing their career. But guess what, action was finally taken to assist the carrier.

See, here you go again. You are being purposely deceitful. Who went to the press?

But that deserves kudos. Dismiss the men, I know what’s best!

CAPT Crozier - directly or indirectly - made that status report and plea for help public knowledge.

Frankly, that's enough for me.

And I've even thought out loud, "I should go to the press about this shite." But, I never did. If I had, I would know it would have been the end of my career.

You are #FakeNews. I said his going to the ship and addressing the men directly, as it was his decision, deserves kudos.

Taking the questions back to the Pentagon seems a bit of a dodge, but I understand they're voluminous.

He should have taken at least a few questions from E-4 and below, IMHO.

I think you misunderstood me. The fleet wanted us pierside to wait it out. We wanted isolation or to go back to sea with the virus (it's easier out to sea than pierside).

I doubt the CO sent it to the press. I think it was a some on else on the ship. But i wouldnt be surprise if the CO knew it would end up in the press.

You do realize any single correspondence can be indirectly sent to the press? Correspondence indirectly falling into the hands of someone it wasn’t intended for is the fault of the individual that actually leaked the information. This is just weak stuff. We both know why he was fired.

If he had either classified it, limited the distro or both he wouldn't have been fired.
