The irony is that the science (when viewed in an unbiased fashion) has argued this all along...

PUBLIC RELEASE: 25-APR-2017
Popular belief that saturated fats clog up arteries 'plain wrong' say experts
Best form of prevention and treatment are 'real' food and a brisk 22 minute daily walk

BMJ

quote:

The widely held belief among doctors and the public that saturated fats clog up the arteries, and so cause coronary heart disease, is just "plain wrong," contend experts in an editorial published online in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.

It's time to shift the focus away from lowering blood fats and cutting out dietary saturated fat, to instead emphasising the importance of eating "real food," taking a brisk daily walk, and minimising stress to stave off heart disease, they insist.

quote:

cite evidence reviews showing no association between consumption of saturated fat and heightened risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and death.

quote:

"Decades of emphasis on the primacy of lowering plasma cholesterol, as if this was an end in itself and driving a market of 'proven to lower cholesterol' and 'low fat' foods and medications, has been misguided," they contend.

$$$$$$

quote:

A high total cholesterol to high density lipoprotein (HDL) ratio is the best predictor of cardiovascular disease risk, rather than low density lipoprotein (LDL). And this ratio can be rapidly reduced with dietary changes such as replacing refined carbohydrates with healthy high fat foods (such as nuts and olive oil), they say.

quote:

And the impact of chronic stress should not be overlooked because it puts the body's inflammatory response on permanent high alert, they say.

"It is time to shift the public health message in the prevention and treatment of coronary artery disease away from measuring serum lipids and reducing dietary saturated fat," they write.

"Coronary artery disease is a chronic inflammatory disease and it can be reduced effectively by walking 22 minutes a day and eating real food."

But, they point out: "There is no business model or market to help spread this simple yet powerful intervention.
"

No $$$$$.....

In before "this is not political"

Good thing science is amenable to self correcting, unlike, say, religion.

What's your definition of "bad"? That it won't clog arteries? Because it will make you fat if not eaten in moderation.

I'm not religious, but I'd say the views of some faiths do evolve over time. The most notable exception being Islam.

eating real food

Bottom line:

As you get older your digestive organs lose their ability to absorb nutrients from food. They become less efficient as you grow older...especially if you take proton pump inhibitors.

With a healthy diet, little physical activity, moderate drinking and no smoking and supplements that include D3, K2 and magnesium and you should be golden. (K2 is very very important. The lack of K2 is the underlying cause of lots of diseases. It has to do with proper Ca+ allocation in your body.)

Very well intentioned / intelligent folks can fall into the traps of cognitive dissonance, hubris, appeal to authority (especially when incredibly broad topics are melded with $$$$, politics, public policy)

People who suffer from blood clot problems MUST stay away from vitamin K.

Complicated. Best answer : pro-inflammatory foods...

FIFY.

K2 is different. Without it you will calcify your arteries and exasperate the patients issues with clogged arteries.

That's odd--being physically fit and following a healthy diet will take care of that on its own. Hint: a proper exercise and diet regime doesn't allow for unregulated saturated fat. In short, don't be a fat slob and you'll be okay.

Tell me about it. Just last week I was set to be burned at the stake until I affirmed my Catholic faith to my neighborhood priest.

This has been well known for years, but it's not talked about much. The government has promoted this phony research since the 70's and simply wants to save face.

If you think about it, it makes no sense on its face. Human beings have always eaten diets high in saturated fat. Agriculture was not a thing until about 12,000 years ago (for some cultures) while other cultures didn't even adopt agriculture until the modern era. Diabetes and obesity were unheard of in these hunting and foraging cultures.

The real killer is sugar and refined carbohydrates. There is so much evidence to support this that it's malpractice that so many "medical experts" still espouse the old "saturated fat" canard. The key is to eat REAL food that's not processed.

Nevermind, we stopped doing that last week.

Yep. That's why I eat Kerry's Gold and buy grass fed meats. The good news for people that live in the southeast is the majority of our beef is grass fed (except for the last couple of months of the cows life) because grass is cheap to grow the south. In the Midwest and West grain is cheaper and the cows don't have the ability to make K2.
