The "truly" part was an essential qualifier with regard to my interpretation.

You don't have to be so ugly about it, though.

Disagreeing with you is not the same as not seeing nuance.

Question: "What is truly Scandanavian?"
Answers: "Absolutely nothing", "There's no such thing"

That's known as the bluf, or bottom line up front. You can spin it, you can pretend people who don't agree with you just can't see the "nuance." It says what it says.

And as for you & Hank navel-gazing over whether or not it's a good commercial, they almost immediately closed comments on YouTube and have now pulled it altogether. What nuance am I missing there?

I wasn't meaning to do that, but I see how it could be interpreted as such. I'm just saying, I saw it and interpreted IT with a different sort of nuance. I acknowledged that the "bluff, or bottom line" was provocative and likely deliberately so.

They were going for high concept to a broad audience. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Almost by definition, “high concept” goes over a lot of heads.

I think they whiffed.

Pulling the ad says they agree with me.

Pages of people telling you the ad is shite.

Buckley, paraphrased: "Well, I guess we'll just have to see if that's true or not"

SAS pulls ad after one day.

Buckley: "They agree with me"

A 14:1 dislike:like ratio should tell SA to take down that video immediately. The fact that they haven't exposes it for what it is, and that's mind-warping propaganda. People aren't falling for this shite like they used to and these Goebbels-wannabes will soon be making some hard choices regarding their existence.

I have no issue with people liking the ad. I took issue with your implied "if you just understood nuance you'd see it my way" response.

I'm not Scandinavian; if they want to dump on their own culture it's no skin off my nose. I just think it was moronic for a company that's trying to make money. They came to the same conclusion after a very short time.

They've re-released a shorter version of the ad, so you're wrong.
LINK

Outside of some very nice architecture that would look terribly out of place, there is absolutely nothing of value that Scandanavians can gain from African and Middle Eastern "culture". This is an anti-white ad from a woke airline, not some message that we can learn from each other.

It's really strange that comments are still turned off.

I get the point they’re trying to make.., that travel brings us all closer together, but the execution is clearly flawed lol. Saying nothing is Scandinavian, while saying actual things are German or Turkish kind of dismisses their whole point lol. But people also get way too triggered by shite like this. They’re a business. And the goal for any business is your money. They will do whatever they think will get you to spend.

Why? They revised the ad and released it in a different form.

That seems to me to be an acknowledgment that it was ineffective.
