Saying the Pledge in another language...
Posted by jimbeam on 2/22/14 at 7:11 pm01
Saw elsewhere someone saying their son refused to say the Pledge in Spanish in Spanish class.
What is the PT's view on this?

I think the parents of that child are incurably retarded.

As a country we don't have an official language correct? If so then I think people shouldn't take issue.
If anything at least they're pledging allegiance.

We don't? And all my life I thought it was English?

It's SPANISH class. Of course you're going to say it in Spanish.
Reciting any well-known set of words in another language is a good way to learn that language.

I'm still confused as to why saying the Pledge, which was adopted during FDR's presidency, and is recited in public schools, is supported so strongly by some conservatives.

Correct me if i'm wrong, I thought students were no longer required to say the Pledge of Allegiance to begin with regardless of language. So this is 100% a non issue regardless even if his motives were suppose to be patriotic.

I really like him. I think he's a good bridge, because like me, he comes from a conservative background, but he dials it back a bit on the snarkiness and passive aggressiveness, but not completely.
