Tom Woods isn't nutty. He's one of the squarest, straight laced dudes there is.

I have no idea who he is or what he believes. I just heard his silly comment about France and plugged him into the "freedom fry" hole.

What was the silly comment about France? And why did it make you shut it off?

You try to fancy yourself as some level-headed guy, but you can be pretty close minded.

I'm opposed to saying the pledge in any language.

I fully admit that I have no interest in nor patience to listen to rants about the evils of a unified country or rants about states rights. Just my opinion. It's tired rhetoric and anachronistic theory for the most part.

I don't know if Tom Woods goes on too many rants about states rights, being an Anarchist and all.

Nothing silly about him or his argument at all. After all, we're called the "United 'States'of America", not the "United 'State', America"....although it seems we get closer to that every day.

BTW, if you just "plugged him into the 'freedom fry' hole", you should check out more of his stuff. Your pigeonholing of him will end pretty quick.

But what did he say? I'm watching something with the wife right now so I can't listen to what you're talking about.

Is he referring to nationalism? Even you can admit how dangerous the actions of a government that has blanket support under nationalism can be. We've been at continuous war for over a decade, and they're looking for new fronts.

You're only confirming my jokingly saying that you're the worst. You only come by to swat at low hanging fruit, and act as if your time and sensibilities are too important if you're challenged in any way.

Actually, I have to admit that you're right to a degree. And I apologize if I come across as an a-hole. I just don't take the board that seriously anymore and probably should refrain from posting unless it's something that really interests me.

I've gone from a far right Republican (when I was very young) to somewhat liberal Democrat in law school and for awhile thereafter. Now I've sort of settled into what might be called pragmatism. Makes sense to me. My life is pretty good and I don't really sweat the small stuff.

I think most activists, commentators and, especially, enthusiasts on the right and left are just completely full of shite and, for the most part, tilting at windmills.

For my money, we're lucky to have been born in the U.S. and have the opportunity to do pretty much whatever the frick we want to do. This is a great and, most importantly, resilient country. I also love France, the UK and The Netherlands (for real . . . all of them). So sue me.

That's kind of the point of the lesson.

I thought the story was about a kid taking a failing grade for refusing to say the Mexican pledge in Spanish class.

I've noticed that 95% of people who make fun of the poliboard on other boards tend to do this when they do post on this board.

If you're gonna talk shite about a particular board, don't post on it to keep things honest. If you're going to post on it, don't be a pussy by sticking to the low hanging fruit, it makes you look weak.

I don't mind it. I listen to the pledge and National Anthem in Cajun French every weekday morning at around 6 am on 100.3 The Ragin Cajun from down da bayou. The National Anthem actually sounds pretty good.

I'm still confused as to why saying the Pledge, which was adopted during FDR's presidency, and is recited in public schools, is supported so strongly by some conservatives.

Add to that the fact that it was written by a socialist and I wonder the same thing.

Which do you prefer? Does saying it in any other language meet your goal or does saying the pledge and flying the flag of any other nation in class do it for you?
