Sanctuary Cities Counties and States

"Sanctuary jurisdictions remain a significant public safety problem throughout the country. About 300 jurisdictions have been identified by ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement)as having a policy that is non-cooperative and obstructs immigration enforcement "

Good. That's going to save a lot of federal funds that should help with the enormous deficit. Trump finding ways to cut the deficit before he even takes office.

Trump should announce, before he takes office, that any city/county not cooperating with federal immigration laws will lose every dollar of federal funding for a minimum of 12 months.

I know the Houma DA will not file anything with ice since they don't ever come get the guys, it's a defacto sanctuary city.

At least it was when I lived there 3-4 years ago.

Exactly. As I have said in other posts, Mexico/its citizens will pay for the wall either directly or indirectly.

To build off of this, there was a story on the NPR here about how a lot of cities have found themselves in this position not out of a particular political leaning, but due to legal precedent and liability for the taxpayers. Here's the crux of the story about Lehigh County.
quote:

Sweeney says this policy has nothing to do with protecting illegal immigrants and everything to do with protecting the taxpayer. Which is a lesson Lehigh County learned the hard way, when Ernesto Galarza was arrested in 2008 on drug-related charges. Galarza made bail, but based on an ICE detainer, was kept in jail for an entire weekend. As it turns out, though, Galarza was not an illegal immigrant. He was an Allentown resident born in New Jersey. He sued ICE for issuing the detainer request and also sued Lehigh County, even though, as Sweeney says, they thought they were just following orders. "If that immigration agent has made a mistake, then the county or city is therefore on the hook for any associated costs or litigations," said Sweeney. In 2014, a third circuit court judge ruled on Galarza v. Lehigh County. This ruling set national precedent that ICE detainers should always be treated as requests, not orders. Counties can honor them, ignore them or require further documentation, such as an arrest warrant or a judicial order.

New Orleans metro area wouldn't have been built back to what it is today if it wasn't for illegals coming in and doing the work after Katrina

I thought it was against the law to interfere with criminal investigations or purposely withhold information?

Should never have been rebuilt. To rebuild ANY area that has part 12+ ft below sea level is just dumb.
Just my opinion...others may feel differently.
