San Francisco’s spiraling homelessness and opioid crisis is starting to drive away business and tourists, and a $40million medical convention has cancelled after its attendees complained they were too scared to walk the streets alone.

The issue has become so dire that Chicago-based organizers of a five-day, semi-annual medical convention, which attracts around 15,000 people and pumps $40 million into the local economy, have announced they are moving the event to Los Angeles.

They are blaming the appalling state of San Francisco's streets where open drug use and threatening behavior are now common.

Post-convention surveys also found the city's rocketing levels of homelessness and people suffering from serious mental illness on the streets, meant some members were afraid to leave their hotel. One board member was assaulted near Moscone Center last year.

You know it's bad when people from Chicago are afraid to come.

It's gonna be hilarious to watch the local politicians try to out-progressive each other when someone tries to clean up the rivers of shite that flow down the sidewalks

You would think that a sanctuary city like San Francisco would be heaven on Earth, given that it's not only openly defending illegal aliens, but also enabling homelessness.

Just a few more special taxes for a some well-meaning liberal social experiments and all will be well.

This is Nancy Pelosi's district. I would love to ask her why this great American city has been allowed to get into such shape.

True but also depends where you are in LA. It's such a spread out place. SF is really a pretty small city relatively speaking.

True. You also know it’s bad when your city is so shitty and drug riddled that the convention opts for L.A. instead.

Wife was in SF a couple weeks ago and was accosted by 2 very aggressive homeless guys when she walked 1 block from her hotel. Didn't leave again. They are out of control and the cops let them go. Also if your city has a Poop Map that's not a good thing. San Franciso by level of human waste

If San Fran were conservative the problems wouldn't be near as bad and that is just a fact.
