Before anyone bitches that this is "misleading", the US has called for a "phased truce" and the resumption of trilateral negotiations. Russia is saying they're accepting of this proposal but that an all-out cessation of hostilities is going to be dependent on Russian interests and "battlefield realities."

At any rate, at least they're talking about a truce in some form or fashion.

This is the same position they have have had for years. Which is why they always bring up the Anchorage deal. What they are unwilling to do is do another ceasefire that just allows Ukraine to recover.

You see, and about a week ago when I made a thread about the Ukrainians talking about being willing to negotiate, the brain trust around here said exactly the opposite. That it was the Russians that we were waiting on.

What I'm saying is that we now have both sides saying they're willing to sit down and talk and that is better than them not sitting down and talking.

I wouldn't be surprised if you see leftist heads explode or them start committing suicide when it happens.

I would lick Trump's balls just like SDV does.

I think the administration gave it a decent effort right at the start and then with Anchorage, but hasn't really been serious ever since. Rubio straight up said we're on Ukraine's side, which is not all that smart if you want to get this resolved. I also think Rat Boy is undermining Trump. He met with Z in Ireland a few weeks ago and probably told him to keep droning away.

This has been Russia’s position the entire war. They will agree to a cessation of hostilities if Ukraine gives Russia all of the land that Russia is attempting to take by force. That is “Russian interests.”

If the US is now promoting “Russian interests,” then the US has lost in Europe too.

It’s still welcome news. This seems like the first time where both countries are tired of fighting and have at least shown a willingness to negotiate an end.

I’m hopeful here.
