The point is that withdrawal from NATO would not likely result in a significant reduction in US military spending.
We are not withdrawing from NATO anymore than we are making Canada a state.
NATO needs a major overhaul, but it would be better for the United States to force those change from the inside as the leader of NATO.

There is zero need for NATO
Russia cannot invade the entirety of Europe. Several European countries have nuclear weapons. Nothing is going to happen. It’s all bullshite

"NATO specific" spending is only a thing in your head.

Yup. I'm selfish. I want those euro bases and ports. If things don't improve like we wish reduce our economic footprint till the locals howl at their representatives.

I’m all for European nations contributing a greater cost share for conventional capability. But…the UK and France are the only nuclear powers in Europe. The US and UK provide nuclear security to the NATO nations in the event they need them. The policy of burden sharing leverages US/UK weapons with NATO nation employment of those weapons. Without this alliance, Germany, Italy and other European nations will pursue their own organic nuclear programs which would be destabilizing.

EU needs an its own military. Trump is pushing them to that realization.

Obviously, you attack with troops, but the troops in Korea are de facto immobile (globally), because their very purpose is to serve as a tripwire and thereby keep the Norks in line.
No shite. I can give you a “purpose” for all the military assets we have in all their strategic locations, but that doesn’t mean we can’t flex them to respond as needed.
You don’t do much better with military stuff than he does.

straight up fear mongering as an emotional trigger just before the speech.

So many readers on here don't understand. Europe despises the US. This isn't post WW2 anymore. Erik Weinstein goes into detail on this.
NATO was part of our election issues in 2020. We should pull out and we will pull out. Those who don't believe that are just being old and stubborn.

If we allied with Russia and left Poland out of it we could bend the rest of Europe over our knee economically.
Western Europe manipulates us and Russia by formenting animosity between us.
Take that away we could go full predatory. That's why they don't want Ukraine being a "European only" problem.

but it’s time for a reckoning as to what our geopolitical alliances are going to look like in a globalist EU vs MAGA US world.
Agree
Maybe we should be forging new alliances
