You are currently free to enter any different sort of contractual union you wish and not a civil marriage.
There's nothing inherent in chosen societal standardization that necessarily reduces one's freedom, though.

In china only the rich can have lots of offspring. They can afford to pay the social fines. I was on Vanderbilt campus a few months ago and there were hundreds of Chinese nationals enrolled there.
