Yes, he was recruited by Abraham Lincoln to lead the Union Army. However, as was common back then, his allegiance was to his home state of Virginia.

Whenever someone talks about Lincoln and what a great leader, I am also reminded what a petty POS he was at times.

Arlington was Lee's home (or his wife's). Lincoln started burying soldiers on it knowing that Lee would never desecrate the graves, thereby losing his plantation.

You have to hold Gettysburg against Lee, though. He threw his army away because he was old and tired and wanted to go home.

Why mention any confederate general? It makes no sense.

All Trump has to do is hang on these next 2 weeks and not defeat himself.

Comments like this are why people will either 1) vote for Harris or 2) not vote, all at the last minute.

And lol @ the people who say “No one is undecided in this election.”

Go ahead and vote for Harris, you are insufferable. Threatening to vote for Harris every time Trump says something that you perceive as negative. If you don’t have enough evidence based off the last four years that she will be a terrible President then you are beyond persuading. He was a skilled general but I forgot the Left gets to dictate what is and what isn’t acceptable speech

As I’ve said many times, I will never vote for Harris. I am most upset at Trump for failing to ever consider moderates, and things like this continue to prove my point.

Also not sure why you are so worried about who I am voting for, Trump obviously isn’t.

So there is supposedly going to be a Dem meltdown because Trump said Robert E. Lee was a sought after and skilled person?

Isn't this universally agreed with by Civil War experts?

Oh wait...Trump said it. It must mean the end of democracy or some shite.

This is so bogus! As a young Marine Infantry officer we had lots of required reading on prior great generals and countless battle field tours. The key leaders we focused on were Nathan Bedford Forrest, Robert E. Lee and Erwin Rommel. Regardless of who was right or wrong they were ahead of their times in military strategy & tactics. In fact the Marine Corps movement warfare doctrine came from Rommel. I would highly recommend reading “A Bias for Action” if you want to understand Rommel!

“He possessed every virtue of other great commanders without their vices. He was a foe without hate; a friend without treachery; a victor without oppression, and a victim without murmuring. He was a public officer without vices; a private citizen without reproach; a Christian without hypocrisy and a man without guile. He was a Caesar without his ambition; Frederick without his tyranny; Napoleon without his selfishness, and Washington without his reward. He was obedient to authority as a servant, and loyal in authority as a true king. He was gentle as a woman in life; modest and pure as a virgin in thought; watchful as a Roman vital in duty; submissive to law as Socrates, and grand in battle as Achilles!”
War-era Georgia Senator Ben Hill’s tribute to Robert E. Lee

Not worried in the least, no one should be catering to your idiotic “moderate” views. There is nothing moderate or common sense about them. It’s a you problem

I've read this quote before but I've never quite understood this line. From all I've read Washington sincerely didn't want the presidency. The reward he wanted was to go home and he eventually gave even that up.
