My assumption would be so he can make sure that decision is on record even though it probably has no relevance to the outcome at this point. Those two frickers are going down.
It gives leverage to any lawsuits that Kyle may bring against the state and gives more weight to any charges against the prosecution.
Basically, it's the judge saying that the defense claim of an unfair trial and unlawful prosecution was valid.
