Titans receiver Rishard Matthews threatened to quit if the NFL makes it mandatory to stand for the national anthem.

My dad imparted some wisdom upon me when I was 12 or 13, and didn't want to apply myself in school. I'd like to pass this along to some of these fricks, albeit probably too late to do any good.

After a tirade of mine about having to make too much effort on homework, my dad looked me right in the eyes and said, "Well son, the world needs ditch diggers too."

Don't let the door hit you in the arse on the way out!

I saw that McDonalds had some openings but you still can't kneel during the anthem there either.

Just like the liberals that threaten to leave the country if Trump becomes President haha. It's not going to happen.

Well he must have good hands being a receiver. It would be a cotton picking shame to see them go to waste - if he needs a new job.

hate to break it to you kid but queers like you aren't the audience that watches the NFL.

Queers like me?

You mean sports fans who actually care to watch the sport and don't care about pregame festivities. The festivities that some are saying are paid-for-by-the-military ($$millions) recruiting tools in disguise? (Admittedly I've only read this on left wing rags, so it may be fake news) The pregame festivities that gives these misinformed divas an outlet to make their clown-arse, ineffective protests?

It's fricking mind numbing hearing about it -- Who stood up? Who kneeled? Who stayed in the locker room? Who locked arms? Who had security guards hiding them as they kneeled? Who stayed in the tunnel?

Just play the fricking game. Go rack up my fantasy football points. Go cover the spreads I bet on. Go make your political stances on Twitter or somewhere else, just keep it out of sports. Keep it off of ESPN too. That goes for everyone on both sides of the argument.

How many more NFL players will quit?

These guys are dumb as hell, but they won't take multi-million dollar pay cuts. The owners would have to be complete idiots to fall for these empty threats.

Matthews is nowhere near the caliber of player who should be making these kinds of threats. Less talented players have been cut for less.

Hopefully that Nevada degree will come in handy.

Maybe they would if they only performed one surgery a week with 60k+ personally watching him do the surgery with millions more at home watching him.

Paying respect to the flag, the country, the people of the country, and especially the people who sacrificed their lives and livelihoods to make this the greatest country in the history of mankind is a little more than a pregame festivity.

For people like you, it should be a moment, if only a moment, to reflect on those things, and how fortunate you are to be enjoying the entertainment, rather than trying to squeak out a putrid existence in some third world ghetto. A moment to acknowledge that it took more than a camera and a television network to bring you the entertainment spectacle you're about to enjoy, but also the blood, sweat, and tears of soldiers and everyday citizens who came before you.

The fact is that these players, those who support them, and people like you, who only care to the extent that your entertainment value is being diminished, are breaking a bond that unites all Americans, past, present, and future.

If the sacrifices of those before you, and the abundance, freedom, security, liberty, and justice that this country and it's people provides are subordinate to the amount of entertainment you are experiencing, then the lot of you have your priorities in entirely the wrong order.

Check this out:

quote:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Tennessee Titans receiver Rishard Matthews backtracked from his since-deleted tweet that he would be "done with football" if the NFL changed its policy to force players to stand for the anthem.

Titans wide receiver Rishard Matthews said in a since-deleted tweet that he would be "done playing football" if he is required to stand for the national anthem.

"In regards to the tweet I sent out, I'm a man; sometimes you make bad decisions at the wrong time. At that time I made a bad decision to tweet that out at that given moment," Matthews said Friday while sitting at his locker following practice.

Matthews said he doesn't stand by his statement "right now," but "hopes it doesn't get to that."

Hopefully they decide to just go out and play football and not have a pre-game national anthem. This shite's giving me a headache.

I don't play the national anthem before I start my work day. Play it at your tailgate, in your car, or in your headphones if you insist on hearing it. Players wanting something to "protest" can take their shite to Twitter or something.

But praying and saluting the flag are only meaningful if people are compelled to do it. If they want to do it because it means something to them it is worthless...it is the collective expectation of confirmity that matters....the group think...that's the important thing....not that either action is, or should be, highly personal and mean something to the person performing it.

Compel people to honor the flag through sanctions and honoring the flag is rendered no more meaningful than filing a tax return. I stand during the national anthem because it means something to me.....not because everyone else is doing it or because I will be sanctioned if I don't.

I was fortunate enough to spend many a morning off shore of GTMO fishing. Nearly 42 months! I was often alone and barely within site of the hill......but I always stood in my boat during colors. No one would've known had I continued to fish....but I didn't....not once....because the tradition meant something to me....had I been told I would face a fine if I didn't stand? the real meaning would have been lost.

Y'all don't want a nation of people who honor the flag and pray because it means something to the individual....y'all want a nation where people conform without a thought of the meaning in their actions....and that is very disappointing.....

So you're saying than when a prayer is being delivered where you are present, that you just keep on talking and do what you're doing or do you do the respectful thing and be quiet and be respectful to the moment?
