As I said in the MSB thread, I will respect the hell out of the guy if he puts his money where his mouth is. Not to mean that I agree with his reason for doing so at all, but it takes a lot of balls and conviction to turn away that kind of money based on principles.

Agree 100%.

So you're saying than when a prayer is being delivered where you are present, that you just keep on talking and do what you're doing or do you do the respectful thing and be quiet and be respectful to the moment?

No, I scan the area looking for my fellow atheists and agnostics and exchange a knowing look with them..it's astonishing the number of people doing the same thing while the rest of the crowd has their head down in prayer.....I don't talk or interrupt in any way because I hope that praying provides some comfort and hope to those participating and both are hard to come by for folks and I'd feel horrible if I took an ounce of either from another person intentionally....

No I will be done playing football.”

well, bye

Perhaps this is a great litmus test - let's identify the ignorant, the thugs, the purposefully malguided, and get their asses out of the game.

I might start watching again. I wish I hadn't sworn off NFL years ago so that I could now boycott it and have my absence register in the ratiings.

I choose not to watch thugs - or celebrate ignorance.

That's the answer I hoped to get. I'd think your answer could also be used with regards to respect for our flag and what it represents but many people don't seem to take it that way.

Kneeling is pretty respectful to those standing......if the kneeler were causing a commotion they'd be wrong but if they really think that the flag doesn't deserve respect then quietly kneeling while others stand is very respectful of those standing.

This is what decent people do in social situations. Only politics motivate people to act otherwise.

Substitute the Pledge of Allegiance for the National Anthem before the games

But concerning kneeling, in the case of the NFL, the people standing are not the ones deserving respect, our flag and what it represents is. That's why I'll say to my dying days that kneeling while the anthem is being played is about as unpatriotic/unAmerican as one can get. No matter one's politics, it's a very distasteful exhibit.

This is a political stunt and should be condemned. It is nothing more than a "WE HATE TRUMP" statement. Not one of those 'kneelers' really believe the police are going out hunting for innocent black people to shoot down in the streets. Not a single one of them.

But they have been taught to "HATE TRUMP" so this is a great place - knowing that the 'fair' MainSlime Media will project their "WE HATE TRUMP" message to an unwilling audience.

Would you be OK with a couple of actors in "Hamilton" to interrupt the play every five minutes or so to hold up a sign saying = "OBAMA WAS A FAILURE?" People in the audience may agree or disagree with the actors belief, but they would all be pissed off that they took that venue to 'express their 1st amendment freedom.'

Your respect for others praying in your presence is admirable.

BUT - if you were holding a business meeting, and the wait staff sent by your competitors came in and held an impromptu 'prayer' I would imagine that your 'respect' for them would not extend very far. Nor should it.

Amazing how this thread keeps getting bumped.

The circular arguments basically are:
The players have the right to protest. They do.
Patriots have the right to boycott. They do.
The owners have the right to protect their profits by preventing protests. They do.

The NFL is bigger than the few players that will actually throw their pay away.
But it's not bigger than the dollars being withheld by butt-hurt patriots, and fans that condemn support for racist groups like BLM and their anti police agenda by disrespecting America and all that it represents.

Serious question, if the kneelers were supporting the KKK instead of BLM, and were anti-Jewish instead of anti-police would you still support their right to protest by disrespecting America? And, would the "sports purists" still say Klansmen players pushing an anti Semitic agenda by disrespecting America is absolutely fine, as long as they play?
