What I mean is that his picture would not have been plastered all over the news anywhere, leading him to be recognized by someone he knows. I think once that pressure was on, that is what made him confess, he knew his goose was cooked.
Had he been masked up, the pictures of who they were looking for would have been just a generic masked individual. Once his face was everywhere, it was only a matter of time.

That statement would be correct as to not cause those who aided to be alarmed. Right now every person on the interwebs that had interaction with him should have their a-hole puckered tighter than a snare drum, because people are coming to find them , talk to them, and investigate them.
I would bet they knew last night who it was, but you make sure when you arrest you have all the search warrants ready to seize any and everything.

I heard on the radio driving a few minutes ago that they have texts of him texting someone letting them know about the location of the gun, that is was wrapped in a towel, and that he had changed outfits.
I missed the beginning of the segment so I don't know who the texts were to.
But this kid was talking to someone about it.

If I were LEO, I wouldn't publicly disclose that I'm onto accomplices.
I've no doubt that this wasn't a lone actor. Even if the act itself was only carried out by one sick individual, he told others. Others knew, and could have reported this and prevented it.
