No wonder it's easy to get people to hate the rich, they all look so pretentious and douchey.

I know it cracks me up. And all the $40K millionaires have jumped on the bandwagon. I know guys working random office jobs for state bureacracies wearing Perlis bow ties. Not to mention the Abita Seersucker Pils.
What is with the anger about people who are into various aspects of fashion? You're free to not like it, but move on.

I like seersucker always have. It has always been a traditional southern fabric and it is comfortable in the summer (plus it's cheap). My mother always put me in seersucker clothing as a child. I'll wear a seersucker suit maybe once/twice a year. I prefer my off white silk/linen Crittenden suit.
I also like bow ties they're way easier to tie and don't hang. I'm not going to stop wearing something I like because it has become a fad (and who cares if it has) I had to wear a tie to school and we had a Spanish teacher who wore this ridiculous 70s bow tie, so we started wearing them to mock him.
I do think that they are becoming a major fad, but I'm not going to change what I do to avoid perceptions that don't apply or that I don't care for. And to whomever was shite talking Perlis... a store that I cannot replace. Go see Jay, he'll make you look good. In regards to the 40k millionaire remark, I wasn't aware that seersucker was being used as a status symbol. It's a cheap fabric, and as a traditionally English style, the south exported a shitload of cotton and prospered. It caught on in the southern united states.
I would say in the south it isn't as much of a fad as it is in say New England (vineyard vines/hamptons look) or other parts of the United States. If we're going to fingerpoint and make fun, I can go all day on how silly I think cargo shorts, sneakers, carpenter jeans, baggy clothes, flat bill hats, crocs, etc. look. It wouldn't stop me from being friends with someone and it certainly doesn't impact the respect or lack thereof that I have for a person.
OT, how does hip hop fashion escape ridicule. Not only is it not fashionable, it is becoming even more clownish with every hip hop related celebrity pushing it as "high fashion"
What's next people? Are you going to tell me that Oliver Peoples suck too? Classic rayban wayfrarers(???), aviators...and I enjoyed them before they became popular again, but what does that matter to me? Even if you are participating in a fad? so what? Yeah, it's silly, but whatever.

What about the phrase "it cracks me up" suggests that I'm, like, fuming with rage over seersucker suits and bow ties over here. I assure you that I am not an angry guy.

I still don't understand the appeal to seersucker and bow ties.
I'm not a tie guy in general, let alone bow ties, but the appeal of seersucker is obvious. It looks great and it's super lightweight and cool for a suit. It's hard to imagine wearing any other kind of suit during South Louisiana summers.

agreed, it breathes so well. I will say that I don't pull mine out often, this year I've only worn the blazer with khakis
the appeal of bow ties (to people wearing a blazer of some kind) is obvious. Doesn't hang...easier to tie. easier to get the perfect knot, and they don't get as fricked up. No matter how wrinkled they get, they look great when they're tied up tight, whereas a neck tie still looks wrinkled and ratty.
I don't understand the appeal of bow ties to say...the at&t guy in jeans with no jacket. They're not stylish without a jacket and if you're wearing jeans without a jacket, then why even bother wearing a tie if you're going casual
I do need to clarify that the bastille day craze amongst want to be sophisticated liberals is fricking stupid. You're not celebrating independence, you're celebrating class warfare, which according to your own sense of self, you're on the wrong side of. Add to the fact that if you advocate for gun control, bastille day probably isn't the best thing to celebrate. If you believe it is a symbol of independence and freedom, then you believe it is a symbol of independence and freedom that was made possible by guns.

You don't sound angry to me, but I think your bewilderment would be more comprehensible if you didn't live in Louisiana.
The people in the infield at the derby used to make weird remarks about people dressing up, now they do it...so I suppose it is a fad. IMO, it's just a seasonable style that has been around for a long time, especially in the south, and is just more popular by virtue of the bow tie hipster fad. It started as 'look at how different and unique I am' and before you know it they're dressed like judge whitey...how is that for irony hipsters?

FWIW, Bastille Day is/was huge with the hipsters. Like many hipster trends, the rich kids apparently started taking interest, which is why I said "is/was". I can only imagine that interest from someone else has made it lose its appeal entirely to the hipsters.

which in non hipster fashion, they fail to see the irony

I hate fedoras personally, and relentlessly mock my friend and brother who have sported one.

Would some of you rather these people celebrate Bastille Day by looting stores, fighting in their front yards or shooting rounds in the air?
