You can tell who the fat fricks are in this thread

Yeah these people are obese for a reason and just saying eat better and go exercise is a pipe dream. Ozempic and the other semaglutides are incredible drugs and would have long term ROI as these obese people age and suck even more resources out of the system.
Agree. Also, if “just eat less and move more” worked, every doctor I know would be out of a mf'ing job.

I’m not sure of the e right way but these glp1 drugs may be a cheaper alternative to the myriad of health issues they can help.. diet and exercise of course are preferred but realism needs to have a say when the government is paying The costs.
Tax dollars go to make people fat.
Now they want to extract more tax dollars to solve that problem.
Why don’t we start at the root of the problem instead of just throwing more money at.
Get disgustingly fat, give yourself diabetes. The taxpayer will save you.

No, the number is about 40%.
Whatever it is, it's way too high.
Go look at pics from the 70s and 80s. Almost never a fat person in 'em.
Today? You'd be hard-pressed to find a pic without some fat slob in it.

I get the cost concern. I don't like it either. If these drugs were generic and cheaper would you be better with it?

I've noticed it in old photos too, but more than that, I saw it happen in real time. When I was in training and early in my career, patients kept getting heavier, and the complications of obesity kept piling up. We kept recommending diet and exercise (over and over and over) and kept wishing we had more effective tools. But most people didn’t make major changes until the damage had already started.

It's not just for weight loss that people want Ozempic for but the inflammatory reduction benefits that come with it.
It has been known to help give relief to patients with osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia and autoimmune disorders such as the miserable Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Of course you are on it, lol your political takes are as bad as your personal decisions. Why are you bad at decision making?

This is the way

I bet you don’t get a single kickback from drug manufacturers? The medical profession has a myriad of problems and doctor’s overprescribing is one of them. There isn’t a pill for every problem in life and many prescriptions that “help” patients cause a myriad of side effects that were once considered “miracle drugs” like statins and SSI inhibitors.

This. Otherwise, more tax dollars get spent on treating diabetes and heart trouble.

Caution is a sign of good sense if you're not in a dire situation. Skepticism of new drugs on the scene is good given pharma’s track record of overpromising and yes, there's no pill for everything in life. Lifestyle change will always be part of the solution, even if it’s the hardest part.
That said, docs do people wrong if they fit everybody into one box. There are people who’ve tried lifestyle changes lots of times and failed & those who haven't. Some people have less weight, are younger, fewer other illness, etc., and there are those who are now facing things like amputations, kidney failure, or heart attacks and these drugs have more urgent utility with these folks as you might imagine. You're savvy about wait and see with drugs if there's less urgency, though. The nice thing is there's a decade of European data from before they arrived here so we're not totally blind. and no kickbacks, btw.

That is flatout illegal. There are laws on the books that expressly forbid “kickbacks”.
One is literally called the Anti-kickback Statute (federal) and most states have their own version as well.
quote:
The Louisiana anti-kickback law, found in RS 46:438.2, prohibits physicians and other healthcare providers from soliciting, receiving, offering, or paying any form of remuneration, including kickbacks, bribes, rebates, or bed hold payments, in exchange for referrals, purchases, leases, or orders of goods, services, or supplies. Violations can lead to disciplinary action by the Board of Medical Examiners, including license suspension or revocation.
How do people not know that by now?

Distance runners are now micro dosing it as well. Apparently it gives them an edge.

OP. “Bribing IS ILLEGAL” already.
But if they pay RIDICULOUS $$$ AMOUNTS of money on TV ADS across every single news network with these sick commercials,
“If you take ABC, side effects could cause suicidal. Extreme vomiting, loss of limbs etc etc”
Then it’s not a bribe, It’s an EXTREMELY OVERPAID advertising slot that then feeds the Fake News HIGH SALARIES $$$$ when otherwise they cannot afford those salaries. And that’s how you buy the media.
AND, RFK ran on taking the commercials away and thus, the FAKE NEWS would fall apart completely, but I’ve heard he’s crawfishing on it now.
As far as the politicians, they donate to their campaigns and have other ways to get to them. Brown paper bags and such.
So it’s technically not bribes on the surface other than the ways to make Some cash payments. But the commercials & campaign payments (which should be ILLEGAL) along with the commercials

The way to combat obesity is to teach children to eat good foods, not processed junk. High proteins and low carbs. Fresh fruits and vegetables. That, and a moderate amount of exercise. It's not that hard to do. You can feel full by filling up on good food.
