Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, said on Thursday that Republicans in Utah are not pleased with the state's other Republican senator, Mitt Romney, after he voted to convict President Trump for abuse of power in the Senate impeachment trial.

“There will be some people who might be happy with it, and they might be called Democrats, for the most part. I think Republicans are very upset about it. And I, for one, disagree with it and disagree with it strongly,” Lee told Shannon Bream on “Fox News at Night.”

Romney voted Wednesday to convict President Trump on one of the two articles of impeachment against him – abuse of power. Trump's son Donald Trump Jr. was already calling for Romney's expulsion from the Republican Party.

He's not representing the people of Utah. Only being a spiteful prick. Why not?

The plastic man doesn’t care what the people of Utah think. He has a vendetta against the OMB and he and his fellow democrat friends aren’t done yet.

They never should have elected him in the first place. As far as elected positions go being Mormon in Utah seems to be kind of like being a rancher in Wyoming or Montana. It matters more than actual political substance.

How about because those dumbasses elected him?

He won the GOP primary with 71%. Given his history with Trump, only the dumbest of dumb Romney voters in Utah should be surprised he voted guilty.

They can vote his arse out if they don't like it. Until then, they live with their stupidity.

I have no respect for a man that was shite on and abused by the Dems and the media only 8 years ago and bends his knee to those same people trying to get into their graces. It makes my skin crawl.

His lack of pride and lack of even simply being a man astounds me.

It’s the biggest heel turn in politics I’ve ever seen.

He is absolutely the biggest bitch of a man I’ve ever seen in politics.

McCain was a snake and a sociopath.

Romney is just a sniveling little bitch groveling to his abusers.

This may be true, or it might just be wishful thinking. I’d like to see some real poll numbers (post-acquittal) on this. Romney got more votes for senate than Trump got for president in Utah. Utah is red, but not overwhelmingly MAGA.

They might not like it, but he’ll be in the Senate as long as he wants to be. They aren’t voting him out.

They need to prove how upset they are by sacrificing one of the Osmond Brothers.

My wife's family lives there and any trepidation the Utah voters had towards Trump initially has vanished. They love them some Trump and are pissed at Romney. You will see a huge difference in numbers this November.

Trump only got 45% of the vote in Utah and there was some real doubt before the election if he would win the state at all. A never trumper Mormon ran a regionally specific independent campaign against him and got a lot of the Mormon vote. Trump has low approval ratings there as well.

Mormons are weird.

That's why it's best to just ignore this and move on.

Unfortunately there’s no way to do this. We’re stuck with the a-hole.

For grins I decided to read comments on articles about this in the Salt Lake Tribune. In all the articles I read, it looks like about 95% of those adding comments are still in love with Romney. Must be a silent majority that are upset with him.

They voted for Mitt Romney and now they're upset that Mitt Romney turned out to be Mitt Romney?

I'm not inclined to feel bad to the people who have given us Mitt Romney, Evan McMullin and Mia Love.

This isn't exactly what you're looking for, but it does give some insight as to where Utahns' heads were, leading right up to opening statements in the trial.

"Utahns don’t want Trump removed from office. Nearly 60% say the president should remain in office compared to 35% who say he should go."

Those numbers apparently based on a Salt Lake Tribune/Suffolk University poll conducted January 18-22, as is referenced at the bottom of the article.
