All is not lost in Wisconsin.

Republican state Rep. Dan Knodl narrowly defeated Democratic attorney Jodi Habush Sinykin in a special election for a state Senate seat in the Milwaukee suburbs that restored Republicans to a powerful supermajority in one chamber of the state Legislature.
The Associated Press called the race for Knodl Wednesday morning after the race remained too close to call in the hours after polls closed Tuesday with about 500 votes still unaccounted for.
Knodl ended up slightly increasing his margin as final votes from the Town of Lisbon in Waukesha County came in. He finished with 50.9% in unofficial totals to Habush Sinykin's 49.1%.
A Knodl's win again secures a two-thirds majority in the state Senate for Republicans, allowing them to remove state officials impeached in the Assembly.
quote:
The Wisconsin Constitution allows lawmakers to remove state officials "for corrupt conduct in office, or for crimes and misdemeanors," but Knodl has said he would consider launching impeachment proceedings for criminal justice officials "who have failed" at their jobs.
Knodl said he would support invoking the that power against Janet Protasiewicz, the Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge who won a race for a vacant seat on the state Supreme Court. Knodl did not immediately say he would consider voting in favor of impeaching Protasiewicz if she is elected.
State law allows a two-thirds majority in the state Senate to hold impeachment trials for state officials accused of corruption or crimes and misdemeanors if a majority of Assembly members vote to introduce impeachment articles, according to the nonpartisan Legislative Reference Bureau.
Republicans now have a 64 to 35 majority in the Assembly. Now that Knodl is leaving the Assembly, his win Tuesday would lift the Republican majority in the Senate to 22-11.

You mean un-gerrymander the state?

State legislatures control voting laws. Remember that.
Minus 2020. But since the beginning of time power to control voting laws resides in the state legislature or a vote of the people.

This is why having a super majority in both the WI state house and senate is so important. They can pass veto proof legislation including veto proof election law.

Is he trying to wriggle out of campaign promises?
Republicans are too afraid to play the game of thrones.
If Knodl were a commie crat in a commie crat supermajority and Protasiewicz were a Republican you'd better believe a commie crat legislature would swing its big stick around and knock off all the Republicans who managed to win despite their cheating horse shite.
I bet the super majority WI legislature will stand down and not use their powers. Though I'd love to be pleasantly surprised like I was in 2016.

Here is what would happen in your scenario. The Democratic Governor of Wisconsin then appoints their replacement and in the 2024 elections, Republicans would be get rolled in Wisconsin.

I guess you have missed all the activist left judges overturning constitutional law the past several years.
Remember that.

Well, he did win by less than a point for a seat that was held by a Republican.
Let me restate; Less than a percentage point in a GOP district.
*He's not an abortion hardliner either; "Knodl supports exceptions for rape and incest to the current 1849 abortion ban,"

I did not know this...so, Wisconsin is under current abortion law of 1849?

Yes. No exceptions and doctors/nurses can be jailed for performing one.

Holy shite. Now I understand the white women anxiety in WI. Maybe the GOP legislature should throw the left a bone and quietly pass exceptions for health of the mother and rape.

Wisconsin House tried, the Senate said no thanks.

Kelly, the WI SC judge candidate, is a hard liner that wants no changes to the law. (Not that it should matter being a judge, but that's just dumb people voting that never took civics) He got crushed.
The no exceptions is not terribly popular among even those that vote to the right. And not at all with independents.

This is clearly motivating the left. If the WI GOP can get this issue off the table WI might be able to turn a lot more red just in time for '24. It's a lot easier to scare women into voting Dem when you can fear monger that the WI government will arrest doctors and nurses for giving a woman an abortion to save her life. Need to take that low hanging political fruit off the table. You can still ban abortions the way planned parenthood wants to promote abortions and still be reasonable to allow abortions under the philosophical/theological principle of "double effect" like in the cases were the mother's life is on the line for ectopic pregnancies.

You do know that the republican leaning court drew maps considered the #1 and #2 most gerrymander maps. Or are you just spouting non-sense you heard on the radio

So they want to impeach her even before being sworn in? Wow so non-partisan and non-politcial of them

Oh boy... The ideologs here won't like this.
*The religious right still bringing losses to the party. The 1849 law does not fit at all in a swing state. No matter what one's personal beliefs are.
