Judges can’t do their jobs
Which leads to a tangential discussion: are judges actually doing their jobs if their decisions lead to harming the public further?

All we have to do is allow victims of these violent criminals sue judges for negligence. Judge lets a repeatedly violent animal out and he assaults someone the next day or kills someone, that judge should be liable.
Cashless bond. Liable.

Try judges not honoring minimum sentencing guidelines

FWIW, I understand the logic on your side...but...when judges are the weak link, what good does it do to whistle past the graveyard when the guy who murdered the woman in Charlotte has 14 felony convictions, and is out on the street? How twisted does your sense of 'justice' have to be to cut that guy one inch of slack? The judge there needed to be the adult in the room and say enough is enough, but apparently his perverted need to be his savior resulted in an innocent woman dying. IF OUR JUDICIARY CANNOT HOLD THE CRIMINALS RESPONSIBLE, WHO SHOULD IT BE THEN?

We're in agreement. Federal legislation wouldn't have done anything in this horrible case. I don't understand why state legislators don't act.

*as long as their team is in power
If their perceived out group is in power, this is an ABSOLUTE AFFRONT TO THE CONSTITUTION.

What does that have to do with my comment?
Also, is sentencing even in play here? I thought the uproar was over bond.

Yup. It's confounding to see people who claim to be America First but don't seem to understand what makes us the greatest nation on earth.

Many posters have done yet another 180 (on states' rights) to go along with so many other policy positions (war, socialism, etc.).
They will flip back when the winds blow that way.

I appreciate his sentiment, but he's going about it the wrong way IMO.
Stiffen the mandatory minimum sentencing for violent crimes so that judges don't even have the discretion available to them to get someone off with a slap on the wrist sentence.
And put in place mandatory minimum cash bail amounts for violent crimes so that people like that aren't back out on the street a few days later after posting a relatively low bail. And codify that if they pickup another violent crime charge while already out on bail, that their bail is automatically revoked and they have to sit in jail until their trial. Limit the judge's discretion on releasing violent criminals and letting them off with light sentences.

I thought Massie was all over this for years? He demands accountability of our public servants doesn't he?
NOT
(that's only for Trump)

Why would Massie want to expand federal oversight to a local/state function?

It's not the number...of course ONE murder is too many. The grandstanding is a Congress critter drafting legislation that would have had ZERO effect in preventing this tragedy.
Grandstanding? Fertilizer.
A closed-loop system of accountability in this arena and others will prevent numerous crimes.
Eschew obfuscation.

Have to ask oneself, would this proposed legislation have prevented this young women's murder?
The answer is simply no. A federal judge had nothing to do with releasing this low IQ criminal on the streets.
