Global Warming Played a Big Role in Hurricane Harvey's Record Rainfall

LINK

Global warming’s fingerprints were all over the record rainfall from Hurricane Harvey this year, confirming what scientists suspected, according to new research.

quote:

An international team used computer simulations and decades of past observations to estimate the odds for the record rainfall that came with Harvey over a period of three days in August with and without global warming. By comparing those two, they concluded global warming tripled the likelihood for the deluge, which reached more than 50 inches in one location

yep, wasnt the pressure system coming from the nw that forced the storm to stand still instead of move as normal, it was ALL MAN!!! literally MAN!!! because if it's bad we don't have to use gender neutral terms. I read it in the prog playbook.

Hurricane Sandy, Katrina, and Rita was caused by global warming too.

Essentially, the same thing happened with H Issac in La. Areas flooded which had never flooded before. Hurricanes stalling have nothing to do with Climate change.

Obviously a warmer planet means higher precip events. More water vapor as the temp increases. So a stalled hurricane dumps more rain than it would tapping cooler waters...just as you'd expect.

Probably didn't need a computer to get that answer.

Warm waters where? Where the tropical storm is and not world wide.
Weren't we in an La Niña year which means colder Pacific Waters.

And GOM waters were not unusually warm for Harvey. They were warm of course but it was Summer.

Storms stall frequently. The area where Harvey hit is noted for such occurrences. It was a significant weather event, and not becsuse the climate changes.

But I thought weather wasn't climate? At least that's what the liberals were saying after Trumps tweet about the record low temps a few days back.

Everything annoying is caused by global warming. And you can fix it by supporting Democrats.

It was pretty damn warm where Harvey blew up over, but that's missing the point. And really my point.

The article and model tells us nothing. If you model with higher temperatures, of course the chances of high precip events goes up. The modeling states the obvious.

Yes, but not out of the ordinary.

True, the models got the answer expected.

I personally do think humans are having an impact on the climate. The extent, the natural response to it, and how technology will impact it going forward is still in question.

Articles like this are trash though, and should do nothing to sway those who disagree. It adds nothing.

So they're blaming Harvey stalling and keeping Houston on the wet side on global warming..
