We do now if the Russians shot down a plane with 23 Americans on board.
nope
Quantifying morals and principle is a slippery slope.

If there was ever any doubt, please use this as reference to compare leadership styles of Obama and Reagan under almost identical circumstances.

So what did Reagan do besides jawbone on TV and bluster for a few weeks? Diddly squat.

Exactly.

So what did Reagan do? I really don't remember.

One of Reagan's action after the Russians shot down that airliner was to allow world wide access to the military's GNSS system. Today we call it GPS.

He became flexible after the second term election

He released what was classified info at the time and exposed the Soviets for the liars they were in trying to cover it up, Sherlock.

Today it's a "terrible tragedy" as opposed to a "wonderful tragedy".
Next week: Bump in the Road.

And he still did a better job.

Reagan's response to Russia shooting down Korean 747 - 1983
Boy righties are giddy as hell over this.

That sure taught those Russkies a lesson!
And to be sure they were trembling in their boots we launched an invasion of Grenada six months later.

What was Reagan's response to us shooting down an Iranian jetliner in 1988?
We hardly have moral high ground here.

This too.
His remarks were four days after, by the way.

They were sure they were shooting down one of our spy planes.
I listened to those tapes years ago. I believe the General on the recordings was sure. The pilot, I don't quite recall. Point was they, in hindsight, couldn't justify their suspicions based on the comms they were trying to hide.
I do believe the General in charge of that sector ended up going to the highest echelons if the military some years later. So they rewarded him for the "screw up".
