It was that we were worried about Soviet aggression. In the year 2019, I hardly see Russia rolling tanks and soldiers into Western Europe.
If anything Eastern Europe is under more a threat than the West.
So why exactly do we fund Western Europe’s defense again?
It’s not like if Putin got nuts and decided he needed France, that the US would just sit by and let it happen.
Do we really need to spend all of that money defending Western Europe for deference against phantom Russian aggression in this region?

There is another post very similar to this. But for what my opinion is worth and it's not much, I support participation in NATO. You never know what those pesky russians will do.

true enough, Russia only has a 70 billion dollar defense budget, and aircraft carrier that can't launch aircraft, and a conscription military equip with crappy Russian made shite.

The only time NATO forces were called to action was after 9/11 to come to the defense of the US. China is rapidly growing strength, no matter how much y’all want it to be true Russia is not our ally, the ME is going to be the ME. Europe and the US need to stick together

Forward deployment and threat of massive retaliation. Do you know we have nukes stationed over in some of those NATO countries even as we type (Incirilik in Turkey for example)? I'm having fun with this because I know NATO will be around for another 100 years and we will continue to fund the majority of it cause we are the richest badazzes in the world.

Russia is not communist anymore and is more like old school 1940’s America than America is now. You don’t have trans story time in Russia and when the progressives take over Russia may be the only place in the world to run to to be safe from progressive.

Yeah this is true, if Russia doesn't like someone or some movement, it disappears. It's funny that life in Russia seems to be less chaotic and less threatened that living in freedom in the US.

They represent the true threat now. We should be nurturing a better relationship with Russia now, but these idiots in DC and their Russia bull has actually driven Russia into forming a closer alliance with China. Russia and China are currently forming that alliance and it will get stronger. Even that idiot Macron in France realizes it.The West has blown any chance of keeping Russia from shifting East. I am not saying we shouldn't be cautious of Russia but to drive them into China's arms is crazy.
