These people are idiots. Trump is doing his usual thing, as detailed in The Art of the Deal. Have a crazy ask and then negotiate to the middle.
NATO is a perfect example. He threatened to leave (which he had no intention of doing), and everyone went nuts. Result-Europe finally takes the US seriously and pays their fair share. The Danes had no intention of even discussing Greenland. Trump’s rhetoric is bringing them to the table.

There are doers (Trump) and then there are those that will talk a subject to death, dissect if from every angle and and then circle back to the beginning where they will bemoan the fact that nothing ever gets done (Rand)

Anyone or their staff with half a brain would sit down and look into the agreements concerning Greenland. Back to where the Denmark feared the Nazi’s would land and take over.
The US can enlarge their presence at any time. Just announce to the Danes “We need to increase our military presence.”
