It seems the days of political intimidation and partisan retaliation are alive and well in the governor’s office.

On Saturday, August 3rd, The Advocate reported that Centene Management, the parent company of Louisiana Healthcare Connections, contributed $1 million to the Republican Governors Association (RGA).

The very night the story was posted online, members of the Edwards administration are said to have publicly boasted that the company made a “huge mistake” in giving to the RGA, and that there would be “consequences.”

Less than 36 hours later, a high-ranking member of Governor Edwards’ administration called a representative of Louisiana Healthcare Connections to inform them that they would be dropped from the state’s Medicaid managed care system. Louisiana Healthcare Connections is currently the largest Medicaid Managed Care Organization in Louisiana, covering nearly 500,000 Medicaid enrollees. This decision will not only cost hundreds of jobs, but disrupt access to care for hundreds of thousands of our most vulnerable citizens.

This is just one example of the non-stop intimidation coming from the governor’s office directed towards his political opponents, with Louisiana citizens paying the price. It appears there’s nothing John Bel Edwards won’t do to punish those who don’t fall in line. The days of Huey Long-style cronyism should be long gone. But, under John Bel Edwards, the stink of corruption is once again strong in the governor’s office. “People Over Politics” might be the most inaccurate campaign slogan of all time for this governor.

It's a guest post by Ralph Abraham himself.

Rispone has also posted stuff there too.

I just read an article about this. Seems that Louisiana Healthcare Connections was one of several companies in a competitive bid process which has been ongoing for months. They had the lowest bid evaluation score of all of the bidders (meaning the worst bid). The announcement of the awards to the highest scoring bidders was on Monday, August 5. LHC is contesting the fact that the contract was awarded to four higher scoring bidders. The process was handled entirely by Medicaid.

The bids were submitted and scored well before any Saturday, August 3 political contribution, with the results having been announced only two days later on August 5. Unless someone went back in time and changed the bids and their scoring, which occurred well before August 3, this is bull.

I would expect nothing less from a republican politician.

Rispone, Abraham are you paying attention.

Although the state’s unemployment rate remained at 4.3% in July, the lowest since 2008, Louisiana was the only state in the U.S. to post a year-over decline in employment numbers last month.

July employment numbers are in and we see further evidence that folks are leaving La. People here have a job, but the work force is shrinking.

People leaving is certainly a factor in a shrinking workforce, but certainly not the most substantial.
A declining labor force is due to less people considered. Some people are neither employed nor unemployed (the 2 factors used to calculate labor force). This occurs when an individual has not sought employment in the previous 4 weeks. To qualify as unemployed, one must actively seek employment.

Would like to see some backup on this issue. This could be huge, or as TBoy alluded to, not only a nothing burger, but a joke for Abraham to post this.

No doubt, but after numerous reports of a substantial outward migration don’t you think a decline in employment numbers makes sense.

We are one of a few states that lost population and we are the only state with less workers.

GDP stats indicate our economy was flat the past three years.

Houston, we have a problem.

The stste’s GDP for the last three years equals 0.

La.’s economy in 2015 was measured at 231.34 Billion dollars. It was measured at 231.16 Billion at the end of 2028. Three years of high taxes and big govt. and we’ve lost population and part of our economy.

Year by year:
2018 231.16
2017 228.68
2016 228.53
2015 231.33

Go back one more year. The real GDP began to decline in 2014, took a nose dive in 2015, and has been going up ever since.

My wife and I are lifelong residents but are thinking about leaving. There’s nothing else to stay for and there’s opportunity elsewhere that’s better for our family.

The state is uniquely shitty with trash leadership.

Wrong, you are so pro Edwards you ignore the facts. State GDP struggled after the Great Recession and oil collapse. It began to pick up in 2014 and 2015 until 2016 when it receded when Edwards passed his huge tax increase. It hadn’t caught up after three full years of Edwards.
