How does removing firearms from law abiding citizens that have never committed any crimes and have no plans to do so solve gun violence?

Thinking about my in-laws, that all have huge safes filled with a bunch of hunting, sporting and general firearms. They use them for hunting and for sport shooting, and others for personal protection. How do the firearms in their possession come into play when discussing the scourge of gun violence we have in America?

Or my neighborhood. We have maybe 150 or so houses scattered over several streets where I live in Youngsville. If I had to guess, we'd have triple that in firearms and probably a lot more. Never had a shooting, and most nights in the fall when it's cool e leave our windows open. Their existence here are no more a threat to me than anyone's power tools.

Since the VAAAAAAAAAAAAAST majority of all firearms held in America are held legally by law abiding citizens, how does removing their firearms reduce the crime committed by the tiny percentage who would not follow any new gun laws, since they currently don't follow laws preventing the use of firearms when committing crimes?

Even if gun control passed, as long as there's a demand for weapons, there will be a market of folks to buy and sell them. They literally can't get rid of guns at this point.

We better act on THEM (not necessarily advocating for violence) forcing these mental illnesses into our society. It's obvious that mental disease is the problem for all these things. I think there's more to it than that, even.

It doesn't. The same people that care so much we have to "do something" to protect children, also support infanticide kiddie drag shows and decriminalizing pedophilia.

"the most innocent among you are being targeted for random assault and execution so we're going to need you to turn in your best means of defense."

What kind of half wit would think this was acceptable logic?

By increasing the price and therefore availability of firearms.

It's crazy that you have never thought about that. Whether you think that's the RIGHT solution isn't even the question here. Have you really done so little thinking about this that you never considered it?

So you want only criminals and the wealthy to have firearms? That seems like a wonderful solution.

Also….how is that working in Chicago?

Plenty do...I'm just trying to sus out why they think that would make any difference.

We constantly get people saying, "Well, I'm a life long gun owner and even I'M ready do do something." Really? Why? Why do the guns you "own" pose any threat...were you planning something?

If not, explain how you giving up guns that have never been used in a crime and never would...would solve gun crime, a thing in which you don't take part?

This in no way answers this question...

The very definition of a criminal is someone who breaks the law. Gun laws will do nothing but weaken normal citizens from protecting themselves.

They aren't thinking I believe is the issue. Just a knee jerk reaction.

The answer is that we shouldn't publish the names and faces of the shooters and they should be erased from existence. This is obvious solution but the media doesn't want to solve this issue. Too many clicks and the pols on both sides use it to gin up donations.

Something definitely needs to be done, but the focus needs to be shifted from additional firearm regulation to more focus on mental health in the medical field.

Problem is, mental illness is now celebrated under the guise of all the gender identity/trans baloney. You can't treat a problem if people in power aren't labeling it as a problem.

Not to mention the obvious, anyone who is going to break a plethora of laws to shoot up a school, concert, movie theater, etc... isn't going to suddenly start following new gun laws and they certainly aren't going to turn their gun(s) in to the government.

Really and truly, people who are against guns can bang their fist on the table and scream all they want, but a gun ban is logistically impossible in this country.

Even if the government came out tomorrow and said all firearms are now illegal, they could never actually enforce it. The number of guns and owners of those guns would 100% never allow the government to physically take guns away from them nor jail them for owning a firearm.

This is what the 2nd Amendment and a healthy distrust of government will cause a population to become.

You will never hear a reasonable response to your question because one does not exist.
Look at what these liberals have been forcing on us, imagine what that would be like if we weren't armed! They have no respect for the constitution or law.

I think this is true for most...it's purely an emotional response. We saw it with Covid as well. "Just do SOMETHING!!!"

It's why I'm asking it like this. I'm all for reducing gun crime. but I'm one of those crazy people that thinks you should start with compiling some stats as to who's committing gun crimes, where they are located, and why they're doing it...and then first attempt to fix that issue.

It's like our country has cancer, and activists think the best remedy is to ignore that entirely and focus on the athlete's foot.

We have activist DAs reducing gun crime sentencing all around the country...why should I take that side seriously when they discuss their concern about gun violence?

Amazingly the same people that want no guns, push deviant agenda, abortions, arguably the biggest drug users, push to emptying of prisons happen to be all the same people
