I'm wondering; it seems critical re Trump's Military respect. Don't know how many are active or retired in the know, on the Poliboard, but I'd like to know how you Military Guys feel.

TIA. Merry Christmas.

Not sure. But the rank and file military also thought invading Iraq in 2003 was a splendid idea.

Absolutely. We should never have been in Syria to begin with, and we never had a winning strategy in Afghanistan.

Absolutely not, everyone loves being going back and forth constantly away from family and loved ones, further risking their life after coming home several times before for "insert goal that no one fricking knows"

Yes, I believe the rank and file support ending this shite.

Exactly. We watched the Soviet Union bankrupt itself in Afghanistan and then decided to do the same exact thing. You can’t win against guerilla warfare.

I don’t have a problem remaining in our current combat theaters but let’s get a strategy for some definitive outcome rather than a continuation of mere occupation.

I suppose I'm rank and file. To paraphrase Ed Harris in The Abyss: so long as I get a check stamped "Department of Defense," I go where they tell me.

With the army it probably depends on whether or not they already have a combat patch, CIB, etc...

When I was in Afghanistan in 2006, I thought we had been there too long and everything we were doing was to prep the Afghan Army to replace us.

How far does the truth get stretched when in comes to POG's getting those things?

Everyone in a combat zone gets the patch. I've heard of POGs getting CAB's because their COB took a mortar round but can't confirm.

Sure you can.

You just can't do it trying to win the hearts and minds of a barbarian enemy.

Yep...most know our presence is based on BS...
like opium, oil, war...

We can deploy and destroy any country in the world in 3 days...there is no reason for a permanent presence when you have that sort of power...
For proof, ask Qaddafi and Saddam.

We also thought we were going to give them the Japan treatment...
That didn't happen, and other powers thought otherwise...

Also, we were deploying nonstop babysitting Saddam, so just to shut those deployments down and stop putting troops at risk from continual risk at
Khobar Towers and the USS Cole type events

I get your logic, but we created a situation that was far worse, in both human, and material cost.

The status quo ante bellum was cheaper.

They're military.

The don't have opinions.

They go where they are sent.
