I would argue Communism has largely won this war. They have taken over college campuses.

today's Democrats will be full socialists and today's "right" will be about where the Democrats were in maybe 2000.
I’m really tired so I’ll try to be as coherent as I can, but let’s suppose you’re right about conservatives being where Dems were in 2000. This would fall in line with “society moves left over time” which I think is partially true but not all true. If it were totally true that would mean that we’re just going to all become socialists, so why not start now. Radical leftists supported communism half a century ago and we’re still not communist today.
But, if you (or anyone) subscribes to the whole “society moves left over time” thing, wouldn’t this mean the inevitable result is communism everywhere? If the conservatives merely follow the Democrats, and you say they’ll be full blown socialists in 10-15 years, do you expect the conservatives to be full blown socialists one day?
Didn’t Karl Marx say the ultimate conclusion of democracy will be Marxism?

Oh and you never cite specifics as far as "Populist conspiracies".
I just did.
Climate change, institutiuonal racism, Christian Nationalism, White Nationalists, Trump never leaving office if he gets elected again, the "Deep State," The Illuminati, Global Elites conducting various world-controlling schemes, etc. (apparently you don't understand that just the existence of something like "The Deep State" is a conspiracy theory in and of itself). If you want specifics about what these Lizard Aliens are supposed to be doing, we can talk about the time that people posted that the government Deep State caused the weather to be particularly harsh during the Iowa caucus to suppress voter turnout for Trump, or the times (plural) that people have posted the Biden is allowing illegals into the country to train at secret training camps to equip them to subdue American citizens, or any number of other silly crap you guys regularly post.

And you always crucify the only non-collaborators, the MAGA populists.
That is simply a lie. I almost lost always demonstrate that the problem is on the left AND the "right." Just like I did this time.

You always leave out the biggest collaborators... Corporate America.
Well, that's because the conspiracy theories are idiotic to begin with. So I leave out everything about them.
Do corporations influence politics? Of course. They always have, since corporations existed. Is there a problem when Congressmen make $180,000 a year yet all of them end up being multi-millionaires? Sure. Do we need to watch that, push back on that, etc.? Of course.
That's reality.
The world you guys live in, however, is fantasy. EVERYTHING is due to institutional racism (if you're on the left) or "Deep State" conspiracy (if you're on the right). EVERY-frickING-THING.
That's simply not reality.

Your philosophy is a disjointed mess
You're right. I guess I'll go write my congressperson to see if I can get the government to turn the heat down outside. It's too hot where I am.

Russia is not an enemy.
The people, mostly Reddit folks, have been hood winked into believing that Ukraine is about bringing Freedom to Ukraine from Russia. It's not.
It's about protecting American interests there.

I never said it was inevitable. I could probably be convinced of that given a discussion, but what I said is that it is a consequence of the majority of the population having bought into populism.
That could change (although I doubt it will).
And I wouldn't be surprised to find that in our modern age a cycle is what society trends toward. Cycling back and forth between a free, capitalist society and an authoritarian, marxist society.

I realized I didn't answer this question.
First of all, they are not conservatives. Conservatives would not follow Democrats. Ever. Because they would have guiding principles that would oppose those lines of thinking (and if they ever did, they would—by definition—no longer be conservatives, they would have to have abandoned conservative principles in order to do so).
I make that distinction b/c that is exactly why populism has the effect that it has. Because you have to abandon underlying principles to become a populist.
Will populists on the "right" all end up there? Maybe not. Some may realize that conservatism was right all along about the stuff they allow themselves to be talked into because it's "practical."
