There’s only 144M taxpayers.

The bottom 50% of taxpayers only paid 3% of total personal income taxes.

So cut that number in half.

Now we’re adding 80k+ agents for 77M taxpayers. That’s roughly one new IRS agent for every 1,000 taxpayers.

When this kind of shite happened in Rome, it changed from a republic into an empire but the people who lit the fuse weren’t the ones who ended up in charge.

What does the job pay? Would be funny if the 50 hours per week only resulted in right leaning applicants.

I honestly believe these will be filled in with h1-b type employees.

In all reality probably half will be filled and then cut by the next republican president.

There is some truth here, but I am also inclined to believe that the ulterior motive here is to hire 87 million flunkies that are getting paid enough to donate the maximum $2,500 individual political contribution to the political party / candidate of their choosing, like every other bureaucrat that enjoys the benefits of working for big government. Since math isn't easy, that is $217.5 billion dollars over the duration of the appropriation, if every employee makes the contribution.
Also, is there a union for government employees for these positions? How much is that windfall?

Someone explain why the IRS needs people who swear to use deadly force when necessary.

Have you ever seen the Untouchables? Think that, but instead of going after mob bosses and bootleggers, they'll be after folks who sold some baseball cards on ebay and didn't report the income.

Big 4 firms are having trouble hiring. These agents will be bottom of the barrel, like most civil service jobs.

I have a question, and I hate the IRS as much as the next person, but I went on their website, and can’t find this major duties list anywhere on there. So is this a legit screenshot and how do we know?

That doesn't make it any better. Look who the FBI is loyal to.

All I know is every time I have dealt with a Revenue Agent, they have been armed. I assume the guns they carry are for more than just show.

Are they not allowed to have guns? I mean, they’re very hated, and have to deal with some lunatics. If you had to do that job, I’m sure you’d want to be armed too, just in case.

The big problem is not that this is likely to be actually, fully, implemented. The big problem is that our lawmakers WANT it to happen and don’t think we the people can do anything about it. It seems pretty dangerous to let them make laws like this and just hope for the best.

I think there are legitimate situations where some revenue agents might need to carry. When they are going into a white collar setting to review some files probably isn't one of them.
