Don't blow it up. Put enough holes in it that it loses air slowly, comes down at a moderate pace, we collect the hardware. Examine the "weather instruments", gain intelligence on them. Why isn't this obvious?

That would be ideal with literally anyone else as president, democrat or Republican. Biden is compromised though.

Because nothing is as it seems and every truth you think you know, is a lie. Best to just ignore everything that doesn't directly affect your day to day life.

Here's the thing, if you shoot holes with a laser during the day, you won't even be able to see the lasers. Biden could claim the balloon just came down on it's own.

Added with edit...**Not that we should have to hide the fact we're defending our country**

Has Trump commneted as to what he would do?

Lasers are targeted so needing to see their action is not a thing.

Probably don’t want to reveal our military tech.

This balloon - among other things - is bait.

I don't think hitting a balloon with a laser is high tech in the least. Putting a hole in a super thin fabric is not hard, the target isn't moving fast - like a fighter jet or missile. I don't think you're right about this. I bet an ambitious grad student with access to a mid powered University research laser could bring this thing down.

This post assumes we are legitimately concerned with problem solving on how to safely being it down.

Let me tell you, while I have 0 faith in our government competency, making a balloon come down doesn't make the list of things I doubt they can do.

Of course you can. They operate in the IR ranges. Cameras come with IR filters over the imaging sensor and lenses are coated with properties to filter out IR from reaching the sensor.

When the coatings are removed and the sensor does not have an IR filter, you can see lasers. Here is an example:

a single pulse of laser at 22,000 frames per second being rerouted in a lab
