I just had a storm shelter/safe room installed under our staircase last weekend. Most of my collection will get locked up in there.

That's sort of what I have, a very beefed up big closet/vault in the basement, and medium size safe in the bedroom.

I enjoy my firearms, but not quite like that. It's more of a "close friend" type of deal.

3 rounds at 25 yards to get sighted in right. Then 3 rounds at 100 yards to check it out.

Y'all need to do some research on the ballistics of the rounds you are shooting. The distance you sight in at are not arbitrary.

For an AR-15, a 50 yd zero will have you right on at 200 yd with a max of 2" high around 150 yds.

That hand gun is just good enough to shoot your way to a real rifle.

Y'know, I hear this said from time-to-time, but I don't know that it makes a lot of sense. I've rarely ever heard of a break-in/home invasion lasting long enough once a weapon is produced for you to have a firefight, get to a rifle, and then start taking shots with it. Who continues to advance on you while being shot at in your foyer? Not saying it can't happen, but by the time you get to a rifle, chances are pretty good they're running in the other direction and any subsequent shots can get you sent to jail.

Yeah, this thing isn't huge given we likely will never need it, but it's more than enough to hold my guns (in cases) and ammo when we aren't using it. Nobody breaking in is getting in without a key, that much I know. They offered pistol/rifle racks that can be bolted in, which I considered, but I opted not to get those since I figured I would rarely leave stored guns out in open air conditions. I can always add them if I change my mind. It's pretty awesome, though.

Yes, most people know this, and the ones that don't, are mostly just going to be concerned with home protection. That being said, I have found the ballistics info, printed on the box of most decent ammo, to be fairly reliable. This thread was about saving ammo, not a marksmanship class. The marksmanship knowledge, should have already been acquired long before now.

I really would like to see liberals try to take guns.. First of all there is the pesky thing called the Constitution.. "right to bear arms shall not be infringed".

Also, I live in a gun sanctuary county, all guns are safe here.. Sheriff said he wouldn't enforce a gun grab..

I don't know. I haven't bought any in a couple of years, I am in decent shape on that, and .22lr,.22mag and .308. I need to get more .22-250.
A friend of mine told me that he just spent about $1500 bucks on a bunch of 5.56, so he could get a good price per round. I know where he bought it, but not all of the details. It was an in person type deal, and not available over the internet.

Taking guns would involve amending the constitution. That's not going to happen.

Who in the hell doesn't need to practice?

The way that I feel about it, for most experienced shooters, the things that need to be practiced regularly, are the simple basic things, that don't really require firing a round. It's all the stuff that happens before the round fires, that determine if you make a good shot.

I have seen a lot of bullshite posted in this thread but this right here tops them, especially when it comes to proficiency...

NOTHING replaces training with live ammo...

Dry fire is great practice

He said not REQUIRED. You can do up drills with a barrel mounted laser, mags changes, etc without ever firing live rounds. Obviously live practice is better but would you not rather firing Than doing nothing? Does that also mean he need to actually get shot at with live rounds to simulate actual combat?

You are talking about training, I'm not talking about inexperienced marksmen who need to train. If you are like me, I could go for a year without firing a round, and the next round that I fire will still be exactly where I want it. That is because I have already spent thousands of rounds becoming proficient. If you are not, then I guess you need to put in more time. If I owned a shooting range, or was still in the guns and ammo business, I would definitely agree with you though.

My gun enthusiast friend says the problem is not ammo in general. The shortage is in certain calibers and even the 'types' of ammo within the same caliber. I didn't ask him to explain because he tends to be boring.

Buy ammo when you can, not when you are low or planning to use it. You don’t have to walk it, water it, or talk nice to it. In fact put it in vaccusealed bag in a climate controlled area and it will last decades.

It's pretty simple, the most popular stuff, is popular for a good reason, and it's going to dry up first.
