If you ever had any doubt as to whether or not our country is fricked, just come spend the day at a public high school here in south Louisiana.
Kids failing multiple subjects, others with 30/40/50 write ups. No consequences because of liberal policies - there are no “bad” or “stupid” kids - they can all be saved.
What a crock of shite.
Don’t forget, their vote counts the same as ours - and they’re outbreeding us.
Oh, I also have a ton of illegals that don’t give two flips about our country, but that’s a rant for another day...

As a teacher in South Louisiana I can concur. Luckily I teach College bound seniors but I get less and less students every year. Kids have no consequences because their parents dont care and any forms of discipline have been removed. Our Sophomores have never seen paddling in school because it was outlawed when they started Pre-k and it shows. We have more and more kids dropping core-4 (college bound) and more and more getting arrested and dropping out etc. and I am at one of the better schools in the parish. we are a high B school but its getting harder and harder to maintain that grade because simply the majority of the kids dont care and neither do their parents.

We should include free abortions in our welfare programs. In fact, we should pay poor people not to have children.

Talked to a teacher yesterday in our system who was ordered to raise a final grade of 42 to 60. Can’t fail kids.

I almost became a teacher, but after long thought and reflection, I realized I would only last about a week before I ended up punching somebody, so I got out of that gig. And this was twenty-three years ago. Glad I never got caught up in the politics of teaching. It's certainly not like it was in my grandfather's day when he was a school principal.

My wife teaches elementary/middle school, and it's horrendous. The shite kids can do without any consequences is beyond absurd. She has tried to discipline them in the past, and every single time she gets rebuked. It's pathetic, and it will never be fixed.
She was an idealist who believed in the public school system while she was getting her masters. It's funny how when studying theories everything is perfect. Then when practice begins reality sets in. She changed so quickly. Our kids all go to private schools now, and I am blessed that we are able to afford it.
It hurts my heart that too many kids are stuck in this quagmire, and the elected officials don't do a damn thing to actually fix the problems. Get the problem kids out of the classrooms, and a positive learning environment yields better kids and a better future.

The politicians throw money at the problem and think that will solve it, or better yet, blame the "failing school system".
If you go back 1000 years, everyone who was able-bodied in the village had a role. Maybe you hunted or fished, grew crops, built shelters, made clothes or whatever. There was no such thing as someone saying frick that, I ain't doing shite. You would starve, or more likely, be ostracized and driven away early on.
The social safety nets we have now prevent this from happening. Hell, one of our political parties basically outright buys votes by saying don't worry about it, we're going to give you shite.
And yes, south Louisiana is a huge problem. As a matter of fact, if you follow the River there will be several constants: high proportions of out of wedlock births, crime, single parent households, and NFL talent.

Whenever this topic comes up, I like to post this article from the Federalist. Its a must read.

Finally, after ten minutes of him mouthing off and my repeated requests for him to stop talking, I ask for his mother’s number. Few of the numbers in our school’s system are accurate; people change phones and addresses constantly.
He tells me I can call his father right now, pulls out the phone and dials the number. I try to talk to the father, but the poor connection makes it difficult. The father tells me his son doesn’t want to read the book. I explain the student always has a choice, but if he doesn’t read the book he will fail. That is the basic conversation. Nothing comes from the father other than that his son doesn’t want to read the book.

Several students who have been skipping class regularly complain they didn’t know there was a test today or that they don’t know the words, so I should not require them to take the test. Yes, really. The complainers are often students with third- or fourth-grade reading levels who certainly don’t belong in an SAT prep class, but such are the realities of my school. Even with reduced workloads and adjusted assignments, they rarely try. They really need remedial classes, but current policy says this would deny them their “right” to be in a regular classroom, which seems to be more important than them actually learning to read.
quote:
It is ten minutes before the end of class. One student gets up and starts to leave when a friend of hers comes to the class door and calls her. She packs up and walks out. I stop her. “Wait a minute. Where are you going?” She looks at me as though I were stupid and rude. “I got stuff to do!” she exclaims.

Just read your linked article, and it's basically spot on.

School should be swim or drown. Can't hack it dig ditches or swap bed pans for the rest of your miserable life.

We need to just cut the welfare for people having kids they can’t afford. We should offer to fix them for free . So they stop having kids .
Public schools are horrible nowadays. We are putting out daughter in a charter school. Even my wife’s liberal friend who is a publix school teacher is putting her daughter in the same school.

Welfare (and lack of fathers in the home) are responsible for the vast majority of the problems you are discussing.
Abolish welfare for everyone except the bedridden. Just cause you have "the sugar" (diabetes) or your "pressure"is high isnt mine or the governments business.
frick 'em all. Get a job and become responsible or starve. If these parents had a job, and were working their arse off, they would make more of an effort to make sure little Johnny did his homework so maybe he wouldnt have to work the same kind of shitty job.
Elections have consequences, and so does screwing off in school. Those that didnt give a shite in school are lucky to get a fast food job or work the register at dollar general.

Yep.
And add to the fact that in many cases, a kid not only has no father at home, they have no positive male role models in their life.
Statistically, a student entering kindergarten has a 72% chance of never having a male teacher. In most elementary schools, where a foundation is being built, the only male in the building is likely the janitor.
Men have abandoned education as a career. And if there are good male teachers, they are quickly encouraged to get administration degrees and become principals, taking them out of the classroom.

You seem to be implying that S.Louisiana has different rules than other public schools?
