The african american kids? They tend to do just fine when given the same access to resources

One of my favorite mindless platitudes

They're at the same school as the other kids. The only difference is one group actually gives a shite about their kid's education and the other group is using the school system as a daycare service

Most people don’t grasp 1) the scope and severity of children acting out in elementary school and 2) the resources requires to handle the 1% of students who are worst offenders.

You take the worst three kids out of a school of 300 and find alternative schooling for them and your education reform will happen all by itself.

i've been arguing this for years. "tracking" is like racism in school but we legitimately have to reevaluate that logic

again, this isn't about saving white kids in mixed schools. this is about the tens of millions of black children who are constantly denied a proper education so that we cater to that 1-2% at the bottom causing trouble

Busing is ending in St. Louis. Shockingly enough, they found out that 30 years of busing didn’t change educational outcomes.

The suburban school districts that took on the challenge for federal funds will improve organically as time moves on.

Public schooling is dead. There’s no reform available. Get thee to the hallowed halls of a private school. Preferably religious, but most importantly rigorous.

Private schools expel. Even for petty shite. And that’s the kind of place I want my daughters.

They are so busy counting how disproportionate the number of bad kids are in terms of race that they forget to count the people who are affected by these bad kids and the disproportionality of that number

look at all the hoopla about St George in what still amounts pretty much to creating an ISD in EBR

allowing an area for affluent citizens of EBR to actually use public education is basically the worst thing imaginable

or for another example, one oft-used argument to criticize well-performing charter schools is their lack of "IEP students" (to use the verbiage from OP). there are few things that make these people more angry than separating students who want to learn from those who don't and showing how much it can help

My theory is that modern education theory is so removed from actual teaching methods that work, that the theorists are afraid of their house of cards coming tumbling down.

You could ditch the expensive textbooks, hand out the McGuffey reader in 1st grade and get better outcomes.

I disagree. I think they largely know what works but the fact that their kids look different than each other is more important to them.

They know that if they apply what works that it won't have perfectly even results and there racial worldview prevents them from allowing that

the most infuriating part is if you discuss this issue, they act so fricking sanctimonious and call you a monster

hell when i was going on one of these rants a few years ago Tuba shows up and pulls the "man i used to respect you but you're talking shite about kids!!!!!" move. yeah, you are so morally superior you sentence innocent black children to poverty so that you can virtue signal about how you tried to save (and almost always failed) that one kid

Did he address the fact that children in the third world receive a better education in a for 25%-33% of the cost of a public school education in the US (I know as I am heavily involved with a charity that, in part, funds scholarships for needy Christians overseas).

I can assure you they do not know what works.

How do you teach math? Drill and practice.
What do they want to not do to teach math? Drill and practice.
How do you teach reading? Phonics. Or more explicitly, phonemic awareness.
What do they not want to teach? Phonemic awareness.

The "party of science" has virtually outlawed the discussion of Bell curves so that probably explains your ignorance.

This is actually a symptom of the problem I stated. The reason is simple. If you teach kids math or reading in the way you describe one of the reasons it is successful is because it gives children the tools to expand on their knowledge without direct teaching. This means that the rate at which the smarter kids will improve is increased.

So the educators have devised methods to try to flatten out the results. These methods revolve around trying to get the kids to learn only that which they are directly taught. That's the entire motivation behind the whole language movement that existed for a bit

If the only words the kids learn are the ones you directly teach them you prevent the smart kids from expanding on their base knowledge as rapidly

Make no mistake. The avoidance of the most successful methods has everything to do what's slowing down the smart kids. Because long ago they figured out that this was the only way to avoid the gap which they think is the most important thing in education

Group the troublemakers together in a few classrooms and lock the doors.

There is a reason that Watkinsville has been exploding in size over the past 15 or so years.

People want to live "in Athens" but not in Athens-Clarke County.

Oconee County's public schools are MUCH better.

There are still some good public schools. In most areas they are generally found in the suburbs. I wouldn't put my daughter in the BR public schools that we are zoned for.

There are some. As an overall concept, I believe it’s on its deathbed.
